  1. Native edible aquatic plant. American white water lilies at Prospect Lake in the Highlands. Nymphaea odorata. These are the only native water lilies in this area of the world. Other water lilies you see are invasive introduced species.
Beavers & muskrats like eating their stems.
Their seeds, flowers & rhizomes can all be eaten raw or cooked. Roots can be boiled to create a medicinal liquid to treat sore throats (gargle it) & for diarrhea (drink it). Many Indigenous peoples used the rhizomes to treat coughs/colds & crushed stems can be put on teeth to treat toothaches.

  2. These water lilies in Battersea Park’s Old English Garden caught my eye after yesterday’s rain. The droplets on the lily pads created such beautiful textures against the still water. This walled garden is one of London’s quieter spaces - perfect for contemplation on a spring afternoon. Shot on iPhone, no filters needed when nature provides such perfect compositions.

  4. The Lily pads are just as photogenic as the flowers. These #LilyPads appear to be floating without anchor on the deep blue water surface of the #MoonRiver #Ontario #Canada. #Nymphaeaceae is a family of flowering plants and members of this family are commonly called Water Lilies, living as rhizomatous #aquatic #herbs.

  5. While out boating on #McGregorBay #Ontario, we found a hidden inlet between lichen covered #rock #islands with one end being impassable by boat. The #lilypads dotted the water surface and the clouds and #PineTrees reflecting in the still water was just beautiful. #FreeShipping Canada & US!
