The deck seems to show only exercises, application of grammar rules. What I was thinking of is a deck showing grammar rules, the theory with examples and exercises.

There are two of them based on Genki on Ankiweb but rules and exercises are split and the grammar deck seems to be incomplete: https://ankiweb.net/shared/decks/Genki%20grammar

I made it to unit 7. There are things I noticed that make me think that learning Japanese using this method only is just not possible, or maybe you need to subscribe to the non free version. I’m not sure I’m going to carry on with it.

The questions below are illustrated by the images:

1. The grammar tips are very sketchy to say the least.
2. They show only one way to express the negative of です: 「では ありません」. No mention of 「じゃない」 or even 「じゃ ありません」.
3. If you don’t know better, you would think that 「と」 means “or”.
4. Does 「いただきます」 really mean “Let’s eat “?
5. They need to rethink the way they ask certain questions… (last image). 🥴

🇨🇵 C’est la première fois que je parviens à comprendre le titre d’un article de NHK News Easy (presque) sans regarder la signification des mots et sans les furigana ! ☺️ J’ai juste regardé 「また」.

L’article en lui-même est une autre histoire … 🤔

🇨🇵 Je n’ai pas encore fini les exercices des leçons 1 à 4 du Genki mais j’ai une excuse, j’en suis toujours à réorganiser et améliorer les cartes #anki de ces mêmes leçons.

Cette fois, j’ai supprimé tous les tags associés à ces cartes et créé de nouveaux, plus appropriés selon moi.

J’ai aussi refondu les jeux eux-mêmes, déplaçant des cartes d’un jeu à un autre, fusionnant certains et les renommant.

Le résultat me convient, il faudra que j’applique le même traitement aux autres leçons.

🇬🇧 I haven’t finished the exercises for Genki lessons 1-4 yet but I have an excuse, I’m still reorganizing and improving the #anki cards for those same lessons.

This time, I removed all the tags associated with these cards and created new ones, more appropriate in my opinion.

I also redesigned the decks themselves, moving cards from one deck to another, merging some and renaming them.

The result suits me, I will have to apply the same treatment to the other lessons.

Over of the things I try to learn early in language learning is how to state preferences/expectations/boundaries. It’s like a “shit sandwich” to use a term from managerial feedback.

Pattern: {N: thing I’m talking about often with a demonstrative} は {the quality in question} こそ {what I like about it} が {what I don’t like about it} (です)。

E.g.

このアパートは形こそ広いが値段が高いですね。

The apartment is spacious but is too expensive.

I stumbled upon a bunch of semi-archaic words today, but I think I’ve found a new rule. There are some one-kanji words, read in the on-reading, that can be turned into verbs using ずる (the rendaku/voiced form of する). Some of these have undergone changes — from regular use — so they show up as じる (monograde) from the -i stem. Really helpful from a Chinese perspective!

E.g.
変(へん)ずる/変じる
感(かん)ずる／感じる
命(めい)ずる／命じる
