Hi, #laborlaw people in the #usa
As an employee of #SUNY (State Uni of NY) I've been told that if I go on strike I go to jail. We don't have the right to strike. This is apparently due to the "Taylor Law," which says public service employees can't strike.
Of course my bosses use this relentlessly.
My questions for anyone willing to comment are:
1. The NLRB's website (so far; haven't finished all the nooks/crannies) seems to be saying everyone can strike without repercussion. Do they really mean "...except public employees"?
2. There's a recent news story that 800 MDs/residents at the medical center of the University at Buffalo (a SUNY school) are contemplating striking. Is this a different case because they're maybe not really UB employees... somehow?
If anyone wants to explain, I'm curious about how these apparent exceptions work (and I assume they do).
