Its crown jewel, the Guantánamo Bay detention center, was established in January 2002 as a place for the United States to hold so-called enemy combatants.
"The U.S. government chose the U.S. Naval Station Guantánamo Bay because it was seeking a site where neither U.S. nor international law applied — a legal black hole where they could disappear people indefinitely. Over time, Guantánamo became emblematic of gross human rights abuses. “Forever prisoners” of the war on terror are still being held there today. Others caught up in America’s counterterrorism dragnet were detained at torture prisons in Afghanistan and Iraq or kidnapped and 'rendered' to CIA black sites — secret prisons in at least eight countries around the world.
"As the Trump administration has expanded the Bush and #Obama-era terrorism paradigm to cast immigrants and refugees as terrorists and gang members, it has reconceptualized rendition and even pressed Guantánamo Bay into service as a way station for Venezuelan men expelled to El Salvador."

Ein Jahr wütet der #Krieg in der #Ukraine bereits. #Russlands menschenverachtender Einmarsch in die Ukraine hat uns überrascht. Von uns hielten doch viele einen Krieg in #Europa für unmöglich.
Die Regierung #Scholz rief darauf eine „Zeitenwende“ aus. Das Ziel: Deutschland durch ein massives #Aufrüstungsprogramm global kriegsfähig zu machen, uns zur größten #Militärmacht Europas zu machen. Ständig wird uns nun von allen Seiten #Kriegspropaganda um die Ohren gehauen. Wir sollen mitmachen beim größten #Aufrüsten Deutschlands seit dem letzten Weltkrieg.
#Panzer sind keine Hilfsgüter und #Handgranaten keine #Aufbauhilfe! Konsequent für #Frieden und #Abrüstung!
Anstatt den größten #Reallohnverlust für die dt. Bevölkerung seit über 50 Jahren abzuwenden und die #Inflation zu drücken, werden die #Kriegskassen aufgebläht: 100 Milliarden #Sondervermögen und das #NATO 2% Ziel – Hier profitiert außer der #Rüstungsindustrie niemand.
Unsere Stimmen gegen die kriegerische #Politik der #Bundesregierung müssen lauter werden.
Wer #Kampfjets und Panzer liefert und einen #Wirtschaftskrieg führt, ist an #Frieden nicht interessiert. 300.000 #Verletze oder #Tote, 7,5 Millionen Menschen auf der #Flucht: das ist das Ergebnis von einem Jahr Krieg. Wie viele Panzer, Waffen und Artillerie mehr brauchen Scholz und #Barbock für ihren „Friedensplan“? Wer logisch nachdenkt, kann darin keine Perspektive sehen.
Wir wollen nicht noch weiter in diesen Krieg reingezogen werden und wir können die Lasten von dieser Kriegspolitik und der kapitalistischen #Krise nicht länger tragen! Eine konsequente Bewegung für Frieden und gegen Krieg gehört auf die Straße. Wenn der Staat aufrüstet, müssen wir uns wehren!
Die #Nato hat in #Afghanistan, im #Jemen und im #Kosovo gezeigt, dass sie kein F#riedensbündnis ist. Dem Westen ging es immer nur um die eigenen #Profite und #Ressourcen. Wir müssen uns erinnern, dass wir von diesem Krieg – wie von jedem anderen imperialistischen Krieg zuvor – nichts zu gewinnen haben.
Wir rufen dazu auf, auf die Straßen zu gehen: Gegen #Waffenlieferungen gegen Aufrüstung. Für eine solidarische Welt ohne Kriege!
