I’ve given up on trying to regularly write reviews of new albums, but I still want to share albums I enjoyed.  Below are several new (and new-ish) albums – no ratings, no criticism – just music I enjoy listening to and hope you will to.

English jazz saxophone player and spoken-word artist Angus Fairbairn performs under the name Alabaster DePlume.  Apart from his eclectic musical style, he is known for his activism which is evident even in the instrumental pieces on this collection.

The politically-active hip hop trip from Belfast returns with the follow-up to their debut album Fine Art.  The album gestated in the wake of Kneecap’s North American tour getting canceled due to the group’s opposition to Israel’s attacks on Gaza, as well as bogus terrorism charges against band member Mo Chara. The album demonstrates that Kneecap have also grown musically since their first album.

Olof Dreijer is Swedish DJ and producer most known for being part of The Knife, a duo with his sister Karin Dreijer (who also performs under the name Fever Ray).  Dreijer’s first full-length work as a solo artist joyfully mixes African and Latin dance styles with electronic music.

The Field is the stage name for Axel Willner, another Swedish DJ and producer.  This EP showcases his minimalist techno style.

Artist: Genesis Owusu
Genre: Hip Hop/Neo-soul

Genre-jumping, Ghanian-born Australian artist Genesis Owusu returns with a third album making sharp observations on the political and social crises of the world.  According to Wikipedia, “The music blends neo soul with alt-pop, synth-punk, deep funk and Brit rock stylings,” which just scratches the surface of Owusu’s eclecticism.

Genre: Occitan Folk

Cocanha are the French duo Caroline Dufau and Lila Fraysse.  This collections includes original music based on Occitan folk traditions.  Occitan is an endangered language spoken by people in the southern region of France.

If you do not enjoy minimalist electronic music, you’re not going to be pleased that I have yet another recommendation in this genre.  ear are the duo of Jonah Paz and Yaelle Avtan who began recording while attending Bard College a couple of years ago.

ah no, they're back again, and giving a history lesson on the meaning of 'Fenian' and also a but of the old anti-colonialism there.
They intend to reclaim the word for Irish people, the ancient Fenians were a tribe of warrior giants and Kneecap wish to celebrate that rather than the English use of the word.

BBC Huw's Welsh ears have picked up on this, it's a big day in Wales today btw!

Los adioses engañan, un adiós se puede alargar casi tanto como una fiesta.

Porque unas conexiones me llevan a otras pero ningún enlace me lo traía, tenía ganas de saber de Paul Hartnoll. Estaba cacharreando, pareciera que esperándome, esperándonos.

El bueno de Paul estaba con el trío Kneecap, pergueñando travesuras de niños buenos. Me remito a las noticias extramusicales de estos meses, teniendo problemas los irlandeses por decir la cosas como son y señalar cómo coño se está aniquilando a una nación sin que los entes internacionales se muevan. Ya el pueblo despertó y la hilera de dominó se cae (bien, españita. ¡Hablad, pueblos, hablad!).

Oficialmente sale en octubre, en físico, pero ya están los dos sencillos estrenados. El mítico de la electrónica, Paul, colabora en Sayonara.

Es esta una canción poderosa y sexy, cuya misma letra apunta al trance pero elevadísimo a los sonidos hardcore (o bakalas de algún modo, sin ser exactamente lo mismo que el hardcore). Cuerpos sudando.

Joder, sí, joder.

El sonido es tan ravero que parece dominado por ráfagas sónicas análogas al láser de las discotecas. Láseres ametrallados de largo alcance. Metraláseres. Chorrazo. Gustico. Hasta ahora no me había dado cuenta de que queremos a Samantha con un tema así en su discografía.

Sayonara es un no parar, en nada apetece despedirse de ella. El stop no existe si suena. Tiene alma rock. Parece el resultado de electrificar el alma de Misirluo de Dick Dale (la de Pulp Fiction). Llena cualquier espacio y lo hace dando la pista a la gente, volviéndola un espacio ACAB seguro para todes, como antaño fue.

Los Keenap admiten a quienes vengan de buen rollo a entregarse a esta comunión atea del dios del megatrón. Sayonara también es hasta luego. Hasta la siguiente fiesta.
