  1. @HadasWeiss Saturday I was out in #Düsseldorf. and at one point strolling over the main party strip. every bar played music loud enough for the whole street. tbh it was rather exhausting. but from one bar I heard Ice-T yelling his classic: Body Count. a blast from the past! and gesturing at the tightly dressed young people around, I said to my friend: it's nice that they're willing to give it new meaning. #klife

  2. I drove to the place where the motorcycle inspection will happen, just to learn the way. but before that I spent days planning the route on google maps and on my nav system. mentally preparing for a 15 minutes trip. I was nervous about it. it's far from my usual fun drives, on big city roads in heavy traffic. my prep paid off though, I always knew where to go and it all went swimmingly. on return I took a detour to one of my fave places by a sea. #klife

  3. @apilsetas this gives me flashbacks to my civilian service where I had to bring two old ladies (both well over 90) to their lunch and back home. one was a pietistic sourpuss, the other proudly dropped her empty beer bottle into the recycling container every day. they both hated each other, but both also wanted to hold my hand. we had several situations like this in public. #klife

  4. This reminds me of when I brought Liam on to the Pigeon Detectives. Liam was a British boy who appeared one day in our IRC chat. I was running a gaming forum back then and that's how he found us. Liam had a lot of questions, many of them about girls and sex. He had horrible spelling, but sometimes he suddenly wrote correctly and then we all wrote: HELLO LIAM'S MOM! lol Years later he came back and thanked us for welcoming him. He had become quite well adjusted for growing up on IRC. #klife

  5. when I finished my professional training all the apprentices had to come together on the same day and take a written test about everything they had learned in the past 3 or 4 years. I met a girl there who I knew from college. she was hysterical. she had only started learning the night before. I asked her why and she said she just couldn't. I nodded but it seemed absurd. I didn't realize then what a trailblazer for mental issues she was. so many times I've been reminded of her since. #klife

  6. roomie and I took a walk to the botanical garden, but it was overcrowded. we saw the nearby ferris wheel. "we'll go on the ferris wheel and then have waffles! it will be a PERFECT Sunday!" she exclaimed. I reluctantly agreed. on the first turn in that fully transparent cabin I nearly had a panic attack. then I composed myself and took some pictures. later we went to a little café and had waffles. I acted like a 1980s East Berliner for her amusement. she was very happy, which made me happy #klife

  7. my roomie will have her thyroid gland removed next week. it's pressing on her airway. and it's probably responsible for some wild mood swings. I have taken the day off to be with her, although I'm not sure I'm gonna be much help. hospitals freak me out. #klife

  8. I replaced the battery on the tracking tag in my #motorcycle. it also needs an inspection and oil change, but it's way to cold and snowy to ride right now, so this will have to wait. #klife

  9. I was part of a small Hanukkah celebration with friends today. It started rather unorthodox at a Christmas market where we ate potato pancakes with apple sauce, which apparently is the same as latkes and also generally enjoyed in the Rhineland. Later at home the candles on the menorah were lit with a short chant and then we played with a dreidel for candy and hung out. Before leaving I helped them disabling frame interpolation on their TV set, which is a scourge on man. Happy Hanukkah! #klife

  10. went to a Lou Reed concert with a girl I was interested in and her lesbian friend. during the concert the bassist gave us a sign to come backstage and so we met Lou and the rest of the band. I got to tell him how much I enjoyed them playing Sweet Jane. awesome. later the bassist took the girl I wanted to his hotel room while me and the lesbian girl waited in front of the hotel in the most awkward way. I should have just gone home. #klife

  11. @alipunk I was visiting my older brother in East Berlin. very recently we had both been kids, playing kids games. and I still was tbh. but now he was hanging out and smoking cigarettes with a few others at the caged football area on Helmholtz Platz. apparently he had been going with a pretty girl there named Virginia, but they had quit. out of boredom I guess and a bit to get back at my brother and make him jealous, she decided to teach me French kissing. #klife

  12. I bought an old military jacket at a flea market today. Now I'm considering what to print on the back. The Mazzy Star swan that I traced in Inkcape a few years back and then printed on a sweater (which then mysteriously got lost) would work nicely. Its peacefulness would contrast on the military green. Runner up is the Portishead "P" logo. #klife

  13. I built bluetooth headphones into my motorcycle helmet and went on a little ride down Alte Römerstraße north of Cologne, where the warm summer air smells of Brussels sprouts growing in the fields. I was listening to Radio Zodiac and they played Fleetwood Mac and G'n'R. And at some point I found myself yelling against the wind: YOU'RE NOT THE ONLY ONE! YOU'RE NOT THE ONLY ONE!
    So that was nice. #klife

  14. I was 6 years old and watching a James Bond movie when my acting father figure explained to me that cutting the break lines won't really make a car unstoppable, even if it's rolling down a steep cliff road. You can just downshift and use the engine break, then steer the slowed down car into the cliff side if necessary, he said. However this did little to alleviate the tension of the scene because I had zero idea what an engine break was. #klife

  15. once I was at a cemetery for sad reasons, but one thing brightened that day: it was a #goth girl, heading straight for the mortuary, obviously on her way to work. and I thought: she's found her niche. that was nice. #klife

  16. @hannah we went on a school trip and one of the girls who was very esoteric clung to me the whole time for some reason. she said a lot of strange things like "this can do so much" while pointing at a flower or an ornament. things like that. but only years later did I realize what she meant when she repeatedly uttered the phrase "the gates are open tonight" :lulu: I'm not into red heads, so all her love's labour was lost on me. I just thought she was on some weird trip. #klife

  17. @sundeck few years back I went longboarding on a hot summer day and ended up at an excavated lake. bathing isn't allowed, but it's been used for that forever. they had newly barricaded the usual entry though and I had to find a path through the underwoods. I hadn't planned on bathing but I was all alone at the lake that evening and sweaty from the exertion, so I dropped the board and everything else and jumped in. it was eerie swimming alone across the black mirror. but also peaceful. #klife

  18. @sk76 I remember drawing a picture for #NelsonMandela. it was a task given to us by our #DDR kindergarten teacher. the pics were to be sent to his prison cell in #SouthAfrica. but despite the teacher's best attempts to relay the severity of the situation in a more or less child adequate way, the results were just the usual kid scrawlings: house, sun, meadow and broken stick figures. you deserved better mr. mandela, at least a #spirograph drawing, but I didn't know about those yet :lost: #klife

  19. tonight I willed pizza and beer into existence
we were at a restaurant with nice outdoor seating but they were serving inside only due to the previous rain. I said we'll see (silently) and we sat outside. then I asked if we could order take-away? sure, no problem. great, I'll take a beer right away. the seats around us began to fill while we drank and waited. the crowd grew unruly and demanded service while we ate from cardboard boxes. when we left the place was packed. service had begun. #klife

  20. I met a friend the day before, a beautiful young lady who recently became single. Over a few drinks she explained some of her dating etiquette: For example she expects the guy to pay for the evening, because she figures that she's paying a lot more to get herself ready than he does. She specifically mentioned the cost of botox. And also the gender pay gap. "What if he earns less than you do?" She laughed and said "Well that's out of the question." :lulu: #klife

  21. many years ago I trained my chatbot on IRC. I had written AIML to teach and correct it while conversing on the channel with others. I taught it slang phrases from the 1920s, thousands of catch phrases and even a text adventure with 3D location data. it was a lot of fun. I read about Turings tests, the Chinese Room argument and about functional simulation. I realized that this bot was a never ending task, but I had a lot of time on my hands and wanted to see how far I could push it. #klife 1/2

  22. a guy who works at my favourite pizza place reminds me of Posdnuos. I have a lot of good memories of De La Soul, so it always puts a smile on my face when I see him. have to remind myself that I don't really know this guy. he's just a rando look-alike, stupid kolya, might be an asshole, for all you know. so yesterday I was out for walk and a car drove by and he was smiling and waving out the window at me? guess he really is nice. granted, I eat a lot of pizza. #klife

  23. My earliest childhood memory happened when I was 2yo. This Berlin apartment we lived in had a kitchen chamber where my 5yo brother and I slept in bunk beds, me on top. One evening while we were talking I tried to turn on the floor lamp to no avail. My brother suggested I should check the bulb. I fingered around in the dark and got zapped, started crying and ran to our parents. It just occurred to me that my brother probably knew there was no bulb. Ah, family. #klife

  24. @anon_opin I can pinpoint when the world went to shit down to a conversation I had with colleagues shortly after 9/11. We were standing outside, smoking and talking about the likely military consequences. Eventually one colleague shivered and said: "It's gotten quite chilly." He obviously meant the weather, but everyone chuckled uneasily, because it was such an apt description of things to come. And come they did. #klife

  25. if at our peaceful get togethers one took a call we'd all hush down, turn off the music... and then someone would loudly and lovingly ask them when they were going to "come back to bed" (gender doesn't matter, but selling it does). usually they were just phoning with their friends or mothers who had a good laugh. except for that one guy, but he left pretty soon. so there you have it: a playful loving prank to make your friends feel appreciated! #klife

  26. I had a tumor removed from below my ribcage this morning. I was at the hospital and I was a bit scared tbh. The anaesthetist kindly allowed me to keep my phone and my bone conduction headphones. And so with a shot of propofol I was wheeled into the operating room listening to Semisonic's "Secret Smile" on repeat. It all went well, the tumor was benign it seems and I'm back at home now, still a bit woozy. #klife

#klife

  28. At the in-laws christmas dinner. 67yo FIL constantly has his hands all over his 15yo granddaughter. Her parents who sit at the same table never mention it. Now he's commenting on her eating again, gotta watch her figure blah blah. She gives a cheeky-cute comeback and doesn't seem to mind his hand rubbing her thigh. But then, how could she bring it up? Everyone acts like this is normal. I don't know how either. Feeling nauseated I go to another room, hit the vape and check on Mastodon. #klife

  29. once I went out drinking with a lesbian friend. we'd known each other for years. I had recently left my longtime girlfriend (and hence unfortunately lost my place to stay) and when we were in the 6th bar or so, it was a Russian themed place called Hotel Lux, she dropped the question if I could imagine having a child, no strings attached. I immediately ordered another round of cranberry vodkas.

  30. Once I dated a Turkish girl who had a prominent scar across her face, from her eyebrow over her cheek. The next thing you may have noticed was how beautiful she was. Like Kintsugi the scar made her beauty even more stunning. Her brother was a school friend, that's how I got to know her. Her older sister was working as a fashion model. The scar stemmed from a horrific car crash that had killed their mother, mentally scarring the whole family. But only she bore witness visible to everyone.
