Hooray, weather alert sirens going off.
It's trickling here in south KC but that line along Louisberg/La Cygne/Mound City/Bronson looks very unpleasant.

Packed a go bag and got dressed assuming we’ll get to go hide in the basement at some point tonight. This line of storms looks pretty wicked and is producing a bunch of circulation. Ugh.

Sirens off. Brief heavy rain. Not a lot of wind. Guess we got lucky. Everyone OK? Lots of KC area peeps out there. #KCwx

Wave 1 clear and it looks like the next batch of nastiness is gonna pass by to the south east of us https://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/md/md0482.html #kcwx

Phones blowing up and sirens outside! We are in the basement. I wonder how many times we will be down here tonight? #KCwx

Mercy, south Kansas City was nothing, nothing and 2 minutes ago it just let loose with some sideways, blinding precipitation.
Glad I convinced the chickens to get in to the coop

Probably not a good thing that my auto porch light just turned on 2.5 hours before sunset. #KCwx

In the hours since I posted this toot, a bunch of our local school districts implemented unplanned early release. Kid 1 has been home for hours, he'd be getting out of school right about now.
Still a beautiful day here. Though the clouds are coming and there's a breeze. This has been totally bizarre. I can't recall the school district ever calling it for anything other than snow. Wish us luck, we might need it!
NWS thankfully so far hasn't used the secret phrase...

That's uhhh that's uhhh that's doubleplusungood https://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/md/md0474.html
And for context, I'm about the 79 between Kansas City and Olathe -
Hey, Mastodon gurus! Apparently the #KC region is in for some severe weather this afternoon. I saw some folks talking about NWS twitter clones here on the Masto. Anyone have insight into a relay of @NWSKansasCity?
PS: To complicate things I've blocked the dumb bridges.
Hey, @ai6yr looks like yours is down? Just FYI in case not known.

Sorry I didn't have a banana for scale but these are probably the largest hail stones I've ever experienced.
Stay safe as best you can y'all -
I saw a post yesterday with a drought map and the KC area had some color. There is no way we're in any sort of drought. We were over average rainfall in Jan and Feb. Nearly over our March average just 6 days in. It's been low and slow w/ storms in between for nearly week. Deep, soaking rain. Not all at once.
I don't think the account that posted it was intentionally being deceptive but it was another reminder to be deeply skeptic of everything.

As a human I reserve the right to complain about the weather anytime it deviates from my very narrow 30-40 degree (f) comfort window. And to be particularly loathesome when the weather is misaligned to my schedule, or whims.
That said, after weeks of having bad weather weekends followed by beautiful Mondays I need to acknowledge that the weather yesterday was chef's kiss perfect. First nice Saturday in memory. And for that, I'm thankful.

Oh, hey! It's beautiful out today with a high of 58. Tomorrow's high is 62. Friday it'll be 74. But don't worry. It'll be cold and maybe snowy for the weekend. Again. SMH! #KC #KCWx
PS: I don't mind the cold, it's cold season. I mind nice weather during the week that turns to crap by the weekend before getting great Monday and doing that cycle over and over again.

It appears South Kansas City is 9 volt battery of snow but I didn't have a spare to confirm
#kcwxFor those who haven't seen the image circulating making fun of the US units of measure: quarter is 1 inch (2.54 cm), 9 volt battery is 2 inch (5.08 cm), credit card is 3 inches (3*2.54 cm), Candy bar is 4 inches (4*2.54 cm), Pop can is 5 inches pop (5*2.54 cm)

Dear people of the KC metro area. By the power invested in me by Murphy’s Law I declare the winter weather will blow over.
I’ve done the following to ensure it:
Found the generator, did a test run. Gassed it up. Secured backup gas. Found the snow blower. Tandem parked our cars. Charged up the power stations. Secured water and food. -
Day 22 of my #365project. Sunsets have been lovely lately here in Kansas City, Missouri. For all affected by the impending winter storms please stay safe. We are stocked up here and will be staying in.

Kansas City, USA
🌡️ Enjoy it while it lasts, KC! We’re seeing a spring-like surge today with a high near 18°C (65°F)! It’s unseasonably warm and breezy. However, keep your eyes on the horizon—a cold front is moving in later tonight, bringing rain and a sharp drop in temps. Get your outdoor run in now before the winter coat comes back out tomorrow! 🏈

Oh hello snow. Yesterday I thought about turning the AC on. Today I am wearing an extra sweater. #kcwx

During the hot months when I'm working outside sweating my butt off, I get really excited about autumn. And every year I forget that here in the #KC area we don't really do that season like everyone else.
Case study: 6 days ago I tooted about it being in the high 80s and loathing to turn on the AC. This morning? My car was frosted!

Not helpful that the sirens here keep turning off and coming back on. 😐 #KcWx

So with the tornado warning issued for my part of #KansasCity I'm conflicted. Because it is fantastic that I am receiving texts, voice and they even called the landline (I'm ancient) to make sure I was aware of the conditions.
But I have no idea what my "Alert KC profile" is. I didn't sign up for any such thing so I got that going for me and my data privacy.
The texts offer me an unsubscribe option by clicking a link to some sketchy ass domain I've never heard of evbg dot co #KCWX -
