Remembering the great singer Kathleen Ferrier who died 8th October 1953. I play her singing Mahlers 'Das Lied von der Erde' from the Naxos Historical Recording often. Recommended!
Happy birthday Gustav Mahler botd 1860.
I will be playing Kathleen Ferrier singing Das Lied von der Erde, with Walther and the Vienna Phil today. Always gives me goosebumps!
"What Is Life?" Indeed. For some of us it's the sublime voice of English #contralto singer #KathleenFerrier, a gift to this planet, whose life & all-too-brief career was cut short by cancer at just 41. Her rendition of the aria "What Is Life?" from #Gluck's Orpheus and Eurydice, is glorious. And it's impossible not to be deeply moved when she sings "Have Mercy, Lord, On Me" from #Bach's St. Matthew Passion & "Agnus Dei" from Bach's Mass in B Minor: https://youtu.be/HYRhIIYx0jY
