Patiently waiting for Posti & DHL to deliver my #JollaPhone | #Jolla #SailfishOS

@wheaty73 I wanted to ditch android fully, but knew I still need some android apps in my daily life like banking. This is why I went with #JollaPhone and #SailfishOS as I got both. Native side is really independent from android, but I can run basically all of my needed android apps in their Android App Support. Have been super happy with the choice!

The Jolla Phone has passed 15.000 preorders and 2.500 phones already delivered! And if I understood it correctly, SFOS 5.2.0.17 is coming to us all!

Truc que j’avais activé (il y a longtemps) sur mon XA2 et qui me manquait sur le JP2601, basculer rapidement de l’appli courante à l’appli précédente avec juste un glisser depuis le bord gauche ou le bord droit, sans relâcher (relâcher quand l’autre appli est sélectionnée ou au son)

Ok, so the new Jolla Phone arrived today. Will write a nuanced review when I've used it a bit but for now it really seems like the Linux phone I always wanted.

Here is the very brief first impressions score.

Android compatibility 9/10

If you are ready to tinker a little and can manage on your own, buy it!

Ambiances importées (bon, j’ai effacé accidentellement celles d’origine, pas grave), patchs installés et activés, N9ish copié à la main (le rpm n’est plus installable, dépendances et architecture, toussa)

Ich werde meine #JollaPhone Artikel Serie noch fertig schreiben und dann geht's an eine neue Besitzer:in.

@rubdos Tested charging the #JollaPhone with my #PinePower charging station. Charging via USB-C PD port is inconsistent, it first tries like 8V (wtf), and then either drops to 5V1A (couldn't reproduce in the video though), or goes to [email protected] (~30W). The other USB-A ports all settle at 5V2A (~10W).

So at least as good as the Sony Xperia 10iii, which can only do 5V2A (10W) in any case. 😅

UPDATE: Now I can't reproduce those 30W, it stays stuck at [email protected] 😅

#JollaPhone charges very slowly. I read that they're working on it. But I'm used to ridiculously slow charging phones, so not a surprise to me...

- 😑 bluetooth seems to be utterly broken though on the #JollaPhone

- 🤩 cameras that just work without hacks (quality still very meh though, I guess you can't have Linux *and* a decent camera...)
- 🤩 one-click microG install
- 🤩 battery life seems ridiculously good compared to any Linux phone I ever used

After the usual grind re-setting everything up again, restoring backups, etc. I have everything I need set up now (except :nixos: #nix 🤓)

I am *very* happy with this phone. It's such a massive upgrade to the broken (or non-broken) Xperia 10iii phones I have been daily-driving with #SailfishOS for far too long now. 😅

- 🤩 double-tap to wake like in good old times
- 🤩 fingerprint unlock
- 🤩 dang it's fast and smooth!
- 🤩 configurable (privacy) switch on the side

Turns out, one of the #JollaPhone battery backplate fingers wasn't seated properly. Uncrewing and reseating fixed it. Must have slipped @jolla QC, not a problem.

Shipping an applicator for the tempered glass protector is absolutely brilliant!

Yesterday on Day 3 of daily-driving the #JollaPhone I decided I'll take a different approach. If at the end I am just using Android apps... what's the point of it?

So I am doing a step back, I put the phone sim card back into my Pixel phone, and instead I will use it around the house purely with native linux apps.

I also set up the dev environment yesterday, and I managed to deploy and run a sample app via cli tools. I didn't manage to set up the emulator.

@kerfuffle Made two speedtests in a row while a iPhone 16 Pro at the same provider, same contract type, did the same directly after finishing at the other mobile. Booth at 5G network. The Jollaphone 2 did both times the better speed performance. 260 Mbps (Jollaphone) vs 40 Mbps (iPhone) and 376 Mbps (Jollaphone) vs 268 Mbps (iPhone). It would be worth a bug report when it didn't get a propper 5G connection. #Jollaphone #jollaphone2
