... the #JewishDiaspora will be the losers for generations to come.
#Antisemitism is at a level globally not seen since #WWII, for starters. IMO, the chief loss for all #Jews will be that they can no longer claim that they are a special persecuted people (Babylon, Egypt, early Rome, Middle Ages, the #ThirdReich...)

The #NetanyahuRegime, the legitimately elected #Israeli government, has been comitting #Genocide on the...

  4. "Judaism is not Zionism, and those who argue they are one and the same are being fundamentally dishonest. Yet collectively, Jews are often held responsible when the world's only Jewish state claims to act in our name.
For many Jews in the diaspora, Israel was framed as a beacon of freedom, a place of refuge in the event of pogroms or genocide.
But what if the victims of the Nazi genocide are now perpetrating a genocide against the Palestinians?
The Jewish community is undergoing a long-overdue moral reckoning with its identity, role and responsibility. Only some are meeting the moment."

The Jewish diaspora must confront what Israel is doing in our name

    > The genocide in Gaza, backed by diaspora institutions, requires us to challenge the Jewish mainstream's embrace of a fascistic Israel

  5. I was thinking about a recent post by @daniellesatm about the fact that she has lost many followers, and revenue, simply for being a Jew.

I think that this has become a universal experience of diasporatic Jews. We've lost people in our lives.

In a recent episode of Unorthodox, Brett Gelman speaks candidly about this in his own life, as book stores have canceled his appearances- even local bookstores that he's bought books from for years.

While he's certainly a lot more spicy than I am (ie blunt to the point of somewhat offensive), between his bluntness, he addresses serious issues that not only Jews face from gentiles, but the issues that we Jews have faced from ourselves, the internalized antisemitism that the disaporatic culture has injected into us.

I have a more nuanced view than he does on these issues, but his anger and outrage are very understandable and completely relatable to me.

  9. #ShabbatShalom all!

I recently finished a #podcast series I think many of you will like called "Gatecrashers". It's a mini-series about the history of #Jews at the #IvyLeague #university

More than that, for me the series explores questions of #JewishDiaspora and identity- what does it mean to be a Jew in America? To be a Jew in the upper echelons of American culture? What the different ways Jews responded to these issues?

I really loved it, so I'm sharing it!

  11. I just wanted to share my silly #Hanukkah #tradition. Every year I make a different recipe from the #JewishDiaspora every night and to prepare I make a snacks board.

This year I'm making recipes from Spain, California, Mexico, Romania, Yemen, Italy, North Africa and Cuba.
