  1. One thing internet activists don't tell you about people hosting their own websites is that that website is still linked to a single point of failure: the person who owns it. For example, I've seen various #YouTube mirror sites just... die without prior notice and vanish without a trace. Like, several of these.

A more recent example seems to be frutigeraeroarchive.org since every device I've tried to connect to it on gives a connection timeout. Oh, there goes a bunch of important history, media, and resources on #FrutigerAero because the single person manning the site just... vanished or forgot/couldn't pay the hosting fee. Fun! Just because a site isn't run by a company doesn't mean its safe or won't vanish without warning.

  2. 🚨 Technologists, archivists, and internet historians—this is your call to action! 🚨

As the authoritarian, censorship-happy Trump/Musk regime takes hold, federal government websites are getting wiped, altered, or disappeared entirely. Critical public records, scientific research, and historical data are at risk. We can’t let that happen.

🔹 Take action now: Use #ArchiveTeam’s tool to help preserve government websites before they vanish.

    💾 How you can help:
1️⃣ Set up the Archive Team’s docker-compose tool.
2️⃣ Start archiving key sites you care about.
3️⃣ Share this message with other technologists.

The internet remembers only if we make it remember. Let’s keep public data public. 🛡️📜 #ArchivingMatters #InternetPreservation #SaveGovData
