I have a ton of old obsolete random CD-ROMs 'round here from the past four decades or so
everything from random magazine disks to obsolete local computer programs to phone books from 1994 to obscure video games
Most of them I can't find online. Would it be worth it to rip and preserve them somehow or somewhere, and if so, how is the best way to do it? Are there any real legal risks I'd take with this?

Swiss researchers hoard vast trove of NASA climate dataResearchers have copied massive quantities of publicly-available climate and environmental data from NASA onto a Swiss supercomputer to train artificial intelligence models — and for safekeeping amid U.S. funding cuts.
Switzerland’s Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH) university announced the move late last week, saying its researchers had copied around 100 petabytes of NASA data to the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre...
It had taken approximately a year to copy the roughly 6 billion files...
And going forward, the researchers are also planning to copy large quantities of datasets from the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
The datasets, gathered over decades, contain vital information about Earth systems, including greenhouse gases, clouds, precipitation and ice sheets.
They will be used to help train AI models capable of swift and reliable forecasting in areas like weather, climate and natural hazards. ... -

And I can't seem to find any surviving copy of neither the file itself nor the contents of... At best is an archived copy of the, well, contents page
There's webarchive copy of "advanced" programming guide but, yeah not the same file/book
Am I just unaware of some fancy archive or is this just it, just poof and gone?

Early this morning, I had minor success in making one of my Internet Archive uploads more complete. My dump of InsaneHeat.com, a former fan site for the Invictus racing game Insane, has 11 more vehicle files for a total of 462, with some 137 to go. It also now has Utilities and imap folders, along with more skins and maps. This goes on to show that I don't just dump stuff on the Archive; I make them whole when possible.

Does anyone else remember Tux Racer, the old #Linux racing game from way back? Does anyone else also remember tuxracer.fubaby.com, where people would share their courses? Any way to download all the courses again? Sorry, but I want to upload all of them on the Internet Archive. I could only retrieve some of them from the Wayback Machine.

Guys, get out your Internet Archive accounts. A video game repository called Myrient is closing down tomorrow, and a staggering 390+ terabytes of data will disappear with it. I am currently saving webpages at /Eggman's Arcade Repository/!EXTRAS/. Unfortunately, nearly all the saves are 404 errors, even though the files can still be downloaded directly from the site, so we may need to upload them.

We have just had another Internet casualty. Replacementdocs.com was a website that hosted scans of video game manuals for anyone to download. It was most active in the 2000s. I just checked to see the state of the website after months of broken downloads, and—yep—it's gone forever.

Ich werde zur #EH23 meinen mini-PC zum Retten und Archivieren von Optischen Medien (mit LibreDrive) mitbringen. Habs soeben auch auf die Dating Seite geschrieben. Also falls jemand Interesse hat, einfach mit Medien vorbei kommen :)
Wäre jedoch gut, wenn jemand noch einen guten Flachbettscanner mitbringen könnte um die Bilder auf den Disks, sowie die Microcodes auf der Unterseite, etc. mit Digitalisieren zu können.
