Building Letterboxx has made me really appreciate fellow small, focused Mac apps even more.
Today’s find: Perch — a tiny menu bar app for checking App Store numbers without constantly opening App Store Connect.
Check your downloads, revenue, refunds, reviews, app status, all of it.
A simple, useful, cute, fun, Mac-assed Mac app by PaperCloud Studios for a one-time $4.99 purchase. Well done!

I used to think I had a reading list.
Then I realized I had:
• A newsletter list
• A bookmark list
• A read-later list
• A PDF list
• A YouTube watch-later listAt this point my reading list has departments.
Letterboxx is what happened when I gave the newsletter department its own office, and I’d love for you to check it out.
And if this sounds like someone you know, feel free to send it their way.

I save newsletters for a completely different reason.
Not because they prove something happened.
Many newsletters are written by people who pour their heart, personality, expertise, and experiences into what they create.
Over time, you get to know their voice.
You look forward to hearing from them.
Not all email is communication.
Some email becomes a library of heart, soul, and memories.

When I connected that Berkshire Hathaway folder, Letterboxx imported copies of those newsletters into its local library.
I even told it to place them directly into a Berkshire Hathaway Letterboxx.
Suddenly I had years of investing newsletters sitting alongside everything new that was arriving in my dedicated newsletter account.
The newsletters didn’t move.
The way I could use them did.

Letterboxx helps you:
• Build curated collections around topics
• Highlight and save important ideas
• Search across years of newsletters
• Revisit things worth remembering
• Organize information instead of conversationsThe newsletters don't change.
The way you interact with them does.

Letterboxx 1.0.4 is now live in the Mac App Store.
This update focuses on making the app’s reading, organization, and IMAP account model feel clearer and easier to learn.
Some thoughtful conversations with @mjtsai over the last week also pushed me to better explain how Letterboxx interacts with connected mail accounts and local organization.

Sometimes you don’t just want to read the newsletter. You want to turn it over and see how the thing was made.
Tap Message Diagnostics, or press Command-I, and Letterboxx flips the newsletter around to show the nerdy details of what arrived: sender identity, headers, raw source, HTML/CSS/image composition, Clean View changes, and unsubscribe info.

The goal with 1.0.3 was to make Letterboxx feel more predictable alongside existing mail workflows without turning it into “just another email client.”
Also included:
• lighter IMAP sync work
• smoother account editing
• improved menu behavior
• and a fix for a rare native Mac swipe-action crash -

Letterboxx 1.0.3 is now live in the Mac App Store.
This update grew out of some really thoughtful conversations with a test user about how Letterboxx should interact with existing mail accounts while still staying fast and local-first.
Per account, you can now choose whether Letterboxx:
• keeps read/unread changes local
• sends them back to the mail server
• or also refreshes recent read/unread status from the server during checks -

Letterboxx 1.0.2 has officially been submitted for review.
This update is heavily focused on performance — especially launch responsiveness, newsletter list interactions, and overall smoothness throughout the app.
In other words: more good-ery for your newsletter viewing pleasure.

The hero area at the top of the Letterboxx app page shifts through different parts of the experience as you swipe — Dashboard, reading, highlights, clean view, diagnostics, backups, and more — with the entire scene and gradient adapting along the way.
I wanted the site itself to feel a bit like exploring the app.

I didn’t want the Letterboxx site to feel like a static feature checklist, so I started building these little interactive preview environments where the entire scene changes depending on what you explore.
Still polishing all of it, but this kind of tactile, playful interaction feels very true to the spirit of the app.

One of my favorite details on the Letterboxx site is that the feature cards aren’t static — they subtly react when you hover over them, and you can pull them up out of their little pockets to expand the full view.
I wanted the whole thing to feel a little tactile and playful instead of just being another flat marketing page.

One question → one answer → back to work.
No tabs, no rabbit holes.
