Jeroen Berrevoets, Krzysztof Kacprzyk, Zhaozhi Qian, Mihaela van der SchaarProf Mihaela van der Schaar just gave a very exciting talk at the #counterfactuals workshop at #icml2023 on her lab's CDL framework dealing explicitly and with concepts from #causality and #machine-learning. Definitely going on my reading list.

Today, Michael Hu is presenting our work at the High Dimensional Learning Dynamics workshop at #ICML2023. It has the greatest visualizations I’ve ever touched. It’s the Mona Lisa of training dynamics posters. There’s gonna be a corner of the gallery full of weeping empiricists mumbling “only art is real”. In a recently accepted paper at the #ICML2023 Machine Learning for Astrophysics workshop, Christian Kragh Jespersen and I devised a way to teach graph neural networks (GNNs) to learn how galaxies connect with their dark matter halos and even larger-scale environments.
This model outperforms classic techniques like abundance matching, as well as other machine learning methods.

Happy to hear that our paper "Graph Representation of the Magnetic Field Topology in High-Fidelity Plasma Simulations for Machine Learning Applications" (which is probably a new record in the length of the title) was accepted to the 2nd ICML Workshop on Machine Learning for Astrophysics (ML4Astro) to be held in Honolulu, Hawai'i, July 29th.
This is joint work with Prof Minna Palmroth's team at the Department of Physics, University of Helsinki.

I don't know what's more problematic, that #ICML2023 reviewer invites went out during a holiday, or that many of us still saw the email during the holiday.

After the #iclr2023 discussion period (or lack thereof), it's very unlikely one of my papers will get in.
Disappointing, for sure, as I like this paper (and saddened for my student), but looking forward to taking the bits of reviewer feedback that made sense, and preparing a stronger #icml2023 submission.Onward!
