🧠🤓 Ah, the thrilling world of math academia, where papers get "converted using AI" just to remind us humans how utterly unnecessary we are in the process! Bravo, guest bloggers, for turning math updates into a digital snooze-fest faster than you can say "Pythagorean theorem." 🤯📄

RE: https://biologists.social/@Rxiv_mechanobio/117069212690349050
"The arrival of #machineLearning approaches that predict cellular behavior at scale and integrate a wide array of #biologicalData types makes the analytical demand on #mechanisticModels even more pressing. Prediction is increasingly available without #mechanistic #understanding. The central challenge is no longer building models that reproduce #biological behavior, but building #models from which causal structure can be inferred."

This + the final statement of proposal A : " Debian is not here to generate as much code as possible requiring manual review by a shrinking number of human volunteers, or to package every piece of software, or to rush new features, but these are what LLMs are used for. " could readily be applied e.g. to scientific research.
"/Universities/ are not here to generate as much /papers/ as possible requiring manual review by a shrinking number of /human researchers/" ...!

This essay nicely encapsulated my thoughts about using "AI" in research (or in researcher training). Written from the point-of-view of astrophysics, but quite universally applicable: https://ergosphere.blog/posts/the-machines-are-fine/
"The real threat is a slow, comfortable drift toward not understanding what you're doing. Not a dramatic collapse. Not Skynet. Just a generation of researchers who can produce results but can't produce understanding."
"The failures are the curriculum. The error messages are the syllabus. Every hour you spend confused is an hour you spend building the infrastructure inside your own head that will eventually let you do original work. There is no shortcut through that process that doesn't leave you diminished on the other side."

🎉 Oh, joy! Another "revolutionary" app promising to make dry, dense research papers as addictive as TikTok dances. 😂 Because, you know, scientists were just *dying* for a cutesy, AI-powered swipe-right experience to keep up with groundbreaking discoveries. 🚀 Surely, algorithmic feeds will make your PhD a breeze! 🧠💡

DHd 2026 in Vienna showed how vibrant and collaborative the Digital Humanities community has become: from Library Labs and open data workflows to critical debates on AI, data, and epistemology.
But it also raises a key question: are we building tools or critically shaping the role of data and AI in knowledge production?
A strong reminder that Digital Humanities must remain both methodological and reflexive.

Virginia Tech published something many universities still lack: Practical guidance on how to use AI responsibly in research - step by step, across the entire research lifecycle.
Not abstract principles. Concrete prompts. Clear warnings about IP, confidentiality, hallucinations, and dual-use risks. #AI should support thinking — not replace it.

Are review articles dying in the age of AI?
A year ago, we thought so. Today, we see something more nuanced: generative AI is not replacing reviews — it is differentiating them. Descriptive syntheses are increasingly automatable, while reflexive, agenda-setting reviews become even more valuable as knowledge infrastructure:

GAIDeT Declaration Generator for #LaTeX 🔥 A simple and convenient tool for transparent disclosure of #GenAI use in scholarly texts: #GAIDeT → LaTeX → ready for submission.
This is exactly how responsible #AI should work 👉 https://aidisclose.org/

If you feel ashamed to disclose how you used genAI in your research, you probably used it the wrong way.
This was the key message from my presentation for PhD students at a Kyiv Polytechnic University:

For ten years, #CRediT 🎂 has offered 14 standardized contributor roles that make authorship transparent: https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-025-03860-5
But there is a clear gap: CRediT has no place for #AI tools. So how should we properly disclose the use of ChatGPT & Co in research? One answer is #GAIDeT - Generative AI Delegation Taxonomy https://w3id.org/gaidet

✨ New on The Scholarly Kitchen!
My interview with Frances Pinter on #GAIDeT – the Generative AI Delegation Taxonomy.
Why this matters:
🔹 AI detectors don’t work
🔹 GAIDeT reduces stigma & fear
🔹 Task-based disclosure > useless prompt dumps

Here's my take on #AIinResearch : we should evaluate the output of #LLMs critically, applying the same principles of research integrity that we should also use to evaluate any other source. https://renebekkers.wordpress.com/2025/07/01/the-high-five-a-checklist-for-the-evaluation-of-knowledge-claims/
