@FaithfullJohn Now this is quite an image of odd minerals together! Unless you are a scientific whiz you’d never realize such a relationship can exist. Also I had no idea I may find rock people on Mastodon by looking at your new-to-me hashtags! #ThinSectionThursday #Mineralogy and of course you have shared so much via #Hunterian museum.

#MinCup23 #Arsenuranospathite vs #neptunite. Arsenuranospathite has a splendidly bonkers name, but I'm going for neptunite. The neptunite in this specimen in the #Hunterian museum collections, from San Benito, California, has a δ41K potassium isotope ratio of 0.21‰± 0.06. It's probably the only specimen of neptunite on Earth for which the potassium isotope ratio is known 😊 🤓 See https://pubs.rsc.org/en/content/articlelanding/2018/ja/c7ja00257b #Geology #Mineral #Isotopes

@silicatefondue @jolyon This specimen of #sapphirine with phlogopite from Fiskenaesset, Greenland was given by Giesecke himself to the Scottish mineralogist and collector, Thomas Brown (1774-1853). His collections are mostly in the #Hunterian museum, University of Glasgow. https://www.gla.ac.uk/collections/#/details?irn=20699&catType=C&referrer=/results&q=sapphirine

Some lovely art at the #Hunterian Museum Art Gallery and at the #Kelvingrove Museum yesterday. Also, the Mackintosh House replica in the former. Here in #Glasgow.

Soft sediment folds for #FoldFriday These gorgeous blocks of downslope slump folds, with a syn-sedimentary, mini erosive unconformity above, are from the Upper Ordovician Ardwell Farm Formation, exposed on the shore south of #Girvan. #Hunterian museum collections. #Geology #Sedimentology #FridayFold
