Been a difficult week at work and went to collect husband who's been walking bits of the #PennineWay with a friend. Mood was considerably lifted by a drive up the loveliest bit of the #M6 through the #Howgills with a stop at the most excellent #TebayServices for coffee and their finest scotch eggs 😀 Also pleasantly surprised my tiny car managed #HartsidePass without too much trouble!

Quick blast up to The Calf in the #Howgills this afternoon. I think the first time I've ever ridden from the bottom to the hike-a-bike section on Calders totally clean with no dabs or stopping to take a breather: nothing like seeing a bunch of e-bikers getting ready to ride to motivate! The little tarn near the summit was frozen. 🥶 #mtb #cumbria #cycling

Howgills Revisited: A Day of Unhurried Views
Yesterday was a revisit to the Howgills – not exactly my usual haunt. The tally on my track record? A mere handful, alright, maybe two handfuls. Did a couple of Karrimors ( as the OMM used to be called) and several Sedbergh Hills Races. August, always hot and dry – not conducive to my athletic temperament, so I can’t claim any grand results. That’s my excuse, anyway.
Today was different, ...

Tebay from Roundthwaite Common
I stayed in Tebay once, lodged in a humble hostel. Otherwise, Tebay's always been a mere waypoint on my route to the southern Lakes.
Dominated by a long terrace of Victorian houses, squashed at the side of the Lune Gorge. It might once have been a remote spot, when, in the early 19th-century, Tebay was home to Mary Baynes, dubbed the 'Witch of Tebay’.
But the advent of the railway disrupted that tra ...
