Starting April 16, 2026, the eviction threshold increases to 2 months of Fair Market Rent (FMR). Termination of tenancy for non-payment can only move forward if the total unpaid rent is more than 2 months of FMR. This rule applies only to rental units in unincorporated Los Angeles County covered by the Rent Stabilization and Tenant Protections Ordinance (RSTPO).

As has been pointed out here before (by me and others), one of the first fixes needed to expand social housing is to halt (or severely restrict) the right-to-buy (in England) & its draining off of housing stock at a loss to councils..... and it looks like Labour is making its move, although of course a consultation is not yet a change in policy!
