Não esperava muito, mas já me arrepiou nas primeiras páginas.
Além disso, a mistura de tecnologia com feitiçaria despertou minha curiosidade.

El protagonista de esta historia (de nombre desconocido) y su amigo Tonnison pasan unos días en Kraighten, una pequeña aldea del oeste de Irlanda. En ella encuentran un bosque con una catarata abismal, detrás de la cual hallan unas ruinas, y un curioso libro titulado “La Casa en el Confín de la Tierra”. La peculiar narración versa sobre un recluso que vive en una casa en el campo, junto a su hermana y su perro, un extraño pozo del que surgen criaturas terroríficas y una trampa en el sótano que parece no tener fondo. Pronto, el recluso perderá el sentido de la realidad para embarcarse en una serie de terribles visiones que incluyen el asedio a su casa.
En esta novela, el autor que inspiró a Lovecraft, William Hodgson, aborda el género del terror cósmico transmitiéndole de manera magistral una inquietud al lector que se mueve en todo momento entre la realidad y lo onírico. Temibles criaturas y paisajes tan vastos como terroríficos lo acompañan en un relato fantástico que se sitúa en distintos tiempos y espacios.

Wishing Roy #Hodgson a speedy recovery after he fell ill at training today. Poor results and performances doubtless mean he and #CPFC part company. I just hope Hodgson’s influence on football is properly appreciated. Civilised presence in the mad sporting jungle, brought much-needed perspective to a self-absorbed world. Wise, honest, fun, even his cranky moments are slightly endearing. Famously well-read: in PL Reading Stars campaign, Hodgson told kids his favourite authors were JP Donleavy, John Updike and Philip Roth. Not quite Enid Blyton.
A good person as well as a good coach and manager. Remarkable longevity, 48 years in management, Mamma Mia was at No 1 and Harold Wilson at No 10 when Hodgson started in management. 1,269 games, CBE for services to football, trophies abroad, coached Fulham to a European final, took Switzerland to No 3 in world rankings, revered in Sweden, respected at Inter Milan.
Disappointed with Liverpool and England but rescued West Brom, and Palace in 17/18 and last season. Always helps younger managers, has often made sane suggestions on how the game could be improved (workload, calendar etc), never hid from media and passionate about working when most managers retired. If he is to bow out, wishing Roy a long and fulfilling retirement.

Interesting take on #Havertz. I don't know him well enough to judge yet but he does seem languid like #Ozil but more engaged and defensively switched. That said, I agree that #Arteta was using that line as dishonestly as #Hodgson did about Rio Ferdinand. There was obviously masses beyond football with Ozil - so much that it diminished his football almost beyond recognition. -

Many years ago I read this great biography of Houdini by Kenneth Silverman. One thing that sticks with me is the book's description of Houdini's interaction with William Hope #Hodgson, a writer whose work I really like, but who seems to be a jerk who (for fun) manipulated Houdini into a humiliating situation on-stage during a performance.
