    It's a view that looks almost timeless, except that it is part of an entirely man-made landscape dating from the 18th century.
    It was a wealthy businessman from Tyneside named John Burdon, who developed the grounds, creating a 17-acre ornamental lake by adding an artificial river leading to it and encircling it with a walkway.
