Why do we have to stand to be corrected?

e.g., "I stand corrected!" when somebody accepts a correction.

Why can't we sit corrected, lean corrected, lie down corrected, or lie in bed -- oh so very cosy, warm, snuggly, snugglable, and eepy -- corrected?

It's really weird to think that we are kinda legally an Essex girl now, but we don't sound like an Essex girl... or even have much of an Essex accent.

Except maybe for saying sauce and source both the same if we're tired.

Apparently a huge chunk of the almost 6 hours sleep we got last night was light sleep.

For the last 6 years I've been occasionally returning to this gem with the same theme:
