  1. "Big-time film roles did eventually follow, most notably in the 1984 Conan the Barbarian sequel #ConanTheDestroyer, acting opposite of the rising action star #ArnoldSchwarzenegger, where [#GraceJones] knocked out several stuntmen and a karate instructor while on set, evidently not understanding the principles of fight choreography or not caring. “She hospitalized probably 12 people,” Schwarzenegger told David Letterman in 1984." 🙈

  2. Every now and then an opening track touches on perfection, almost reaching through speakers to grab listeners with unusually perfect production and arrangement. I'm always on the lookout for them.

Some retro examples I admire enough to feel they are classic are U2's 'Where The Streets Have No Name', John Grant's grippingly immersive and sonically playful 'Pale Green Ghosts', Grace Jones's 'Walking In The Rain', Fiona Apple's enchanting 'Extraordinary Machine', George Michael's 'Faith', Kate Bush's awe-inspiring epic 'Running Up That Hill', Madonna's 'Hung Up', Scissor Sisters' 'Laura', Marvin Gaye's 'What's Going On', Eurythmics' 'Here Comes The Rain Again', Propaganda's ' 'Dream Within A Dream', Goldfrapp's 'Ooh La La' and so many more.

I'd say the 'So Ambiguous' opener from the latest excellent Röyksopp album is pretty perfect.

  7. Grace Jones is—whatever you make of her—nothing you can make that isn’t her.

And in these times, if you haven’t met her yet, you may find her kick rewarding, there is no one she is like.

  8. Grace Jones is still performing?!? This is from a couple Saturdays ago. "Nightclubbing," "My Jamaican Guy," a brand NEW song (didn't catch its name but it's funky), and more. Impeccable stage craft as usual. What a legend.

  9. #FortnightFridayMusic
    Sept 22 2023
    The prompt is “Sex”
#Pretenders “Private Life” from their eponymous debut, 1979

    Lyric:
“Your sentimental gestures only bore me to death
You've made a desperate appeal, now save your breath
Attachment to obligation through guilt and regret
    Shit that's so wet
And your sex life complications are not my fascinations”

This is arguably the slinkiest song ever to be coaxed along a #reggae beat, owing in large part to #ChrissieHynde's haughty yet sultry vocals on the Pretenders’ groundbreaking debut album.

#GraceJones' trademark deadpan delivery over the killer track laid down by the tight Compass Point Studio house band is more dismissive, yet no less stunning, in her cover on her iconic album #WarmLeatherette. These are both women who have no time for your nonsense; your sex life complications are indeed not their fascinations.

Which version is better? ...Can perfection happen twice?

  10. Im Oktober 1981 konnte man in #Hamburg in viele tolle #Konzerte gehen:
#GraceJones - the one man show
#Milva - "Ich komme gern in Ihre Stadt" (Wär ja auch blöd, wenn nicht😁 )
    #KingCrimson
    The #Undertones

  11. And now, ladies and gentlemen... HERE'S GRACE!!!

#MissGraceJones I love this woman. Refuses to be stereotyped, celebrates dark skin, great songs, a true artist. Here hula-hooping whilst singing #SlaveToTheRhythm live last year at the age of... let's just say over 50. And the official video for the sheer artistry

  12. Grace Jones - Walking in the Rain (Live)

Another fine cover version. The original was written by the Australian band "Flash and the Pan". Grace Jones published this track on her album "Nightclubbing" in 1981. I have no idea where this live performance took place.
