Gah. I wish my #fossy24 talk was recorded so I can link to it. Too many convos about supply chain security crisis going on now and I have large FOMO energy.

It's me and @noemu at #FOSSY24 !!! (yeah, I'm still getting through the photos from FOSSY).
It was great talking about #freesoftware and #education

#fossy24 hashtag had some info, the event was https://2024.fossy.us
Focus is on "free and open source software", I organized a BOF session on "open source software for radio" and had a good mix of existing hams, new hams, and people who were interested to learn more.
The #FOSSY event is organized into rooms (consciously modeled on FOSDEM) and the room organizer(s) help recruit the talks on that theme and track.

At #FOSSY24 on Sunday, there were quite a few musical activities. Multi-instrumentalist Timmy Barnett gave his presentation on "GNU/Linux Loves All: Free Software in Music", I conducted a Music Blocks workshop, a group of FOSSY participants gathered to play music and share instruments.
It was quite fun to celebrate music and software freedom / free culture in this way, and there is much to be proud of.

At this weekend's FOSSY conference, hosted by Software Freedom Conservancy, Sugar Labs executive director Devin Ulibarri presented on the importance of mentoring youth in free/libre/open-source projects, and how Sugar Labs is structured to support such mentorship at multiple levels. Devin highlighted four youth who have come to Sugar Labs through various entry points, how they contributed, and how both youth and mentors have benefited through working together on meaningful work. #FOSSY #FOSSY24

Oh, and I'll add #HigherEducation, with organizations like @apereo, continues to be an active contributor to "FOSS outside of corporations," developing original #OpenSource source projects and cultivating communities of practice.

I heard a discussion at #FOSSY24 regarding "FOSS outside of corporations," referring to the origin of the Free and #OpenSource software movement, beginning with hobbyists and foundations.
Thought I would also include the early contributions to FOSS from and through #HIgherEducation. Many foundational projects have their roots in #HigherEd.

60% of GitHub software funds came from individuals rather than companies. Not only that, but it stayed steady through economic downturn while company contributions dropped off sharply. That tells you a lot about priorities. @feynudibranch #fossy24

Now at #FOSSY24 is @feynudibranch about FOSS funding

Day four (last day) of #FOSSY24 starting off with a panel on FOSS outside of corporations.
Looking forward to #FOSSY25. If you're in #Education, #HigherEd, #OpenSource, #EdTech, or work with a #Nonprofit, be sure to plan on joining us next year.
