Another winter preparation: A direct path from the house door to the firewood store.
I had plans to extend the fence around it but didn't get around to that this summer so the quick fix is to put a gate in the old fence here.
Had enough old gates salvaged from the goat pens so I picked one wide enough for the wheelbarrow and found a hinge post to match.
Gate needed some repair, then post pounded in, fence cut, attached to the post, same on the other side, some dirt levelling and finally welding on a hook to close it.
It will make hauling firewood much easier and also means less snow clearing.
I'll add some woodchip gravel later to keep it from getting muddy and slippery.

Started making kindling for the upcoming heating season. Using the splitter to make a season’s worth of kindling is waaay easier than splitting by hand to make kindling as needed. Our tractor is in the pic since the splitter is mounted on the 3-point hitch and is driven by the tractor hydraulics.
Currently I making medium size kindling. I will also make a smaller size. The contractor is just about done replacing our highly flammable wooden deck so I have lots of bone dry wood that will make fine kindling. And since we no longer have horses there is plenty of room in the barn to store the stuff.

No #homelab nor #coding today, but filled my shed with #firewood because winter is coming.
All muscles are aching, but very satisfied now.
The #climatechange is making north pole warmer. That causes the #polarvortex to break. Last winter that very cold air sloshed over us. I burnt all I had, but should have had a bit more. I have electric heating but my 100 years old house starts dropping temperature inside when outside drops below -10c.
Going back to #homelab, I have #homeassistant automation to prevent water pipes freezing, which turns on a BIG heating fan in basement when it's winter, outside is below - 5c and basement is below +5c at least five hours. Guess what, some glitch triggered the fan few years ago during summer, probably because the little Zigbee temperature probe got low battery. After that I added those extra safeguards.
