(calling it a salad bar feels wrong, but having a Kelantanese restaurant display an ulam station is itself already wut but that's what living in diaspora is ehhhh -- east coasters' raw salads ie kerabu tend to be more similar to Thai cuisine logic so prepared mixes)

I've inadvertently developed a scale of melayu shennanigans in being cosmopolitan cuisine makers.
Bahulu instead of biscotti at the local café is as pleasing as laksam being a laksa variant with chee cheong fun. On the other hand, this incoherency has taken over my placing laksa johor being a variant with spaghetti you eat with your hands as the most wtf result.
(I've eaten here. It's fine in that it didn't result in indigestion or diarrhea but tragic in that now I have Opinions and Thoughts.)

Last boost of @pixiecata's story reminded me of one where my great2-grandmother stowed herself away from Singapore to Southern Thailand because my great2-grandad, a trader/preacher/religious teacher, was so attractive to her. It involved an urn (tempayan la) lmao. When the ship berthed, he had no choice but to honour this Teochew girl. 🤣🤣🤣
Anyway, because it was a typical Muslim culture amongst trading folk here to have port-wives (since multiple wives continued into Islam practiced here, with a dash of the more Shia practice of contract marriages), she was only one of his uh, dozens, of known wives. He was the Chinese-Thai who had family in Jeddah too (which is very normal for maritime Muslim cultures ie the oceanic silk road).

The backstory to this is genuinely fucking hilarious. Pity in news speak it is incomplete:
'Back in 2020, Muhammad Azhar became an overnight sensation after he claimed that he was awarded a prestigious Nasa scholarship and was part of Nasa’s Citizen Scientist, an official volunteer to help make thousands of important scientific discoveries.'
So this dude photoshopped himself into a screenshot of this NASA page, went viral, got congratulated by then PM and KJ (of course), and only later copped to the scam. The only reason his current scam was exposed was because someone clowned on an American 9/11 tweet by bringing up this story (...nvm...) so ppl wondered what happened to him, and lo, we found an IG post last month from the current Trade Minister who's congratulating one of their newest intern... this guy.

LMAOOOOO not my friend using my flight number to buy a lottery ticket because it arrived early and because it's only 3 numbers she needed a fourth.
... only to find that my flight number did come up as part of a winner number but because the fourth number was her own choice her bet wasn't the actual winning combo.
(But if she'd ask for one of my favourite numbers... she'd probably win on her bet. 🤣)

The hilarious realization over the only reason why my random self even knows about BRICS ever since the oughts is simply because if there's one thing my country is good at, it's cultivating that chip on its shoulder about how we've wasted away our potential etc etc etc persistently worrying over if we'll ever escape "the middle income trap" (another World Bank special) and I was at that age where I was busy writing scholarship application essays and prepping for interviews.
(It's no use. At one point I heard back a feedback was, we don't need another Anwar. Even then I was insulted. And I was right to be. Hahahahahahahahaha.)

(Mangkuk literally means bowl, but somehow in slang it's come to mean dumbass 🤣. Of course a bigger dumbass is mangkuk hayun... Which is, uh, a bowl in flight. As in a bowl in the air. As in... idek man. Malay speakers tend to not curse with actual curse words so plus the sarcasm just about any noun becomes an invective if we believe in it hard enough lol)
