#Canada #FederalElection2025 #PierrePoilievre may well stay on as the Con leader, but I suspect he'll have to reinvent himself again. He's alrady tried contact lenses and a new hair style, so I'm guessing he'll move to less snark and present more as a loving, compassionate family man. His habit of behaving and talking as though he's the smartest person in the room may be hard to break, but he has shown an ability to synthesize a new political persona when needed.

#CanPoli #FederalElection2025 A sharp piece from @EmmettMacfarlane. I agree: key question should be disentagling ourselves from economic dependence on #USA. This is especially the case since many conservative pols like Smith and Ford are pushing for *greater* integration, where we try to appease #Trump by offering up our resources. But instead we get a debate over income tax cuts. And my friends the #NDP seem to have nothing to say and are sinking into irrelevance.

Cuts to fuel excise favour the wealthy, reduces funding of roads, and gives nothing to those who do the right thing and take public transport or have electric vehicles. The #LNP will always support such regressive measures. #Labor's election sweetener is marginally better in that the tax cuts appear mostly progressive. The #LNP have never supported, or understood, action on climate change.
We should be much more progressive in taxation and use funds to improve public transport in all forms. We no not need or want nuclear or massive gas projects. Renewables with grid stabilisation, already mostly negates the idea that we need gas or nuclear to meet baseload demand. #FederalElection2025

@c_9 best experience ever. My stint as a poll supervisor back in 2005 gave me confidence in our electoral system.

I would hope that this #FederalElection2025 present an opportunity for Canadians to have a serious debate about #Canada's economic strategy. But my early read of mainstream media coverage is discouraging: lots of attempts to play gotcha with Carney and Poilievre's financial holdings and now endless "Did or did not Danielle Smith try to get Trump's help to fix the election?"
Too bad, because the economic road ahead is likely to be difficult, and voters should be considering the costs/benefits.

Let the #federalelection2025 begin! Hoping for a #liberalpartyofcanada win with #markcarney.
Any suggestions of #canpoli #canadianpolitics people/accounts I should follow on Mastodon? Not necessarily people with the same views I have, as long as they are sharing educated opinions and no fake news. #Canada #canadians #LPC #Politics #Politique #Québec #elections2025

Hey Canadians of Mastodon, are you registered to vote? There's an upcoming federal election, and the less barriers to voting you have to jump, the better! You can check whether you're registered at the right address, or register, or change your address, right here
https://ereg.elections.ca/en/ereg/index
It's easy, free, and it took me like two minutes. Our turnout for voting has been pretty abysmal lately - let's change that.
