  3. A Beetoota Advocate satire piece e today reads: Demise of Menulog proves there’s no such thing as ethical food delivery you fat fuck.’ And then (paraphrase) no such thing as ethical food delivery…‘anyone who thought otherwise is, frankly, a fat fuck’. And the comments to my reply are worse. Here’s the thing: Punching down on fat people isn’t funny - it’s hurting a marginalised group. There are a myriad of reasons why people are fat, and in the vast majority of cases, it has nothing to do with being a lazy ‘fat fuck’ who can’t be arsed cooking or going out to get food. Rather, it involves complex issues such as socioeconomic status, food availability (and deserts), chronic illness and disability, mental illness, iatrogenic medicine (eg many medications esp for mental illness cause weight gain), racism, and other intersecting factors. @betootaadvocate can and should be better than this. Good satire is always about punching up, not down 😖 #fat #fatacceptance #fatacceptancemovement #fatactivism #bodyshaming #bodyshamingiswrong #disabilityactivism #bodyneutrality

Be better. 🙏

  8. If I am ever buried in a peat bog and preserved for thousands of years I really need to ensure I get a tattoo indicating my consent to be studied.

Did you know the bodies of fat people aren't typically accepted into cadaver labs at universities? Medically neglected in life and death.

  10. When people who are thin start sewing clothes and discover the old fashioned sizing system and often unpredictable ease built into patterns and end up 4 sizes bigger than they might normally buy in a store or an ill fitting garment... welcome to the life of a fat person. We adapt, we overcome. Fat people are the most resourceful people I know.

  12. I'm wearing my Fun Auntie jeans today (big pleated front, pegged leg, 80s energy) and had to drop into the Lair* and was complemented on the embroidery I did on the back pockets. They were like "oh I could never wear a pleated front, it draws attention to my belly too much.

OK YOUSE, LISTEN UP: even if you have a big frontal belly like me, embrace comfort. You do not need to wear hard pants. Don't punish yourself. Give your belly room to literally breathe! Expand into comfort! Love yourself!

These photos are from October last year when I made the jeans.

    * For new followers, I volunteer at a second hand sewing and craft shop, it's a community organisation dedicated to diverting textiles from landfill and collaborating with local community to learn to sew, amongst other things.

  14. Awkward waiting room selfie featuring the only larger seat placed directly under the TV so that I guess fat people can feel even more the spectacle then usual.

  15. I have wanted to crochet a Venus de Willendorf for so long and today I overcame my fear of amigurumi! I used a pattern off ravelry by melbangel. There were others but this one was satisfyingly fat. I placed the boobs too far apart and her butt is wonky but she is charming.

I need to stop crocheting because my hands are absolutely ruined. But I've already started a lemon coloured girl. 😅

My Plumpie characters used to be named after Venus figurines (and Niki de Saint Phalle's Nanas) but it was brought to my attention that the naming and concept was racist and colonialist. It totally bowled me over to read up on the entwined history of the archaeological discovery of paleolithic figures and the exploitation of Black Women (the most well known is probably Sarah Baartman, who was labeled "the Hottentot Venus" and degraded so awfully.) The proportions of Black Women's bodies were likened to those of the figurines and thus they were known as Venuses.

Many fat activists love these paleolithic sculptures (I am one of them!) but it's really important to know about the anti-Blackness surrounding their naming history. Go do some reading and keep this nugget of knowledge in the back of your mind when you see these sculptures.
