What's happening at the Global Plastics Treaty negotiations in Ottawa?
According to the Center for International Environmental Law, 196 representatives of fossil fuel and chemical companies have registered to attend.
That's three times more than the number of independent scientists (58), and seven times more than the number of Indigenous Peoples representatives (28).
Say no to plastic and fossil fuel industry lobbyists.

A summary of many of the ways plastics are threatening us with pollution. And so many of the applications of plastics developed in my lifetime - so clearly there are viable alternatives to disposable plastics. Even better - there are alternative products that are easy to use, easier to transport (less volume and weight)., and in many cases, reusable products.
At the same time, there are essential uses of polymers - in biomedical applications, in some engineering applications - so the immediate challenge is moving away from the myriad (but highly profitable & highly polluting) products where alternatives exist.

If every company that bangs out basically useless plastic crap stopped doing it, I wonder how much
a) FF we wouldn’t use
b) CO2 we’d avoid
c) plastic trash we’d avoidEvery year?
Seriously, does anyone know?
This surely has to be one of the simplest triple-whammy things we could do. Not the biggest, but pretty simple, no?
