First of all, only #AUR (Arch User Repository) is affected, meaning only #Arch users need to worry, and only if they have downloaded updates for the specific abandoned packages in the past month or so when the attack began. Everyone on non-Arch distributions is safe, everyone on #Cachy, #SteamOS, and #Endeavor who isn't actively using AUR is safe, only people who actively downloaded recent versions of specific packages from this specific repository are affected.
Linux is still Safe for virtually all users.
Ironically, #Microsoft may be partially to blame for this, as a chunk of the issue is #GitHub projects being taken over, and the amount of Vibecode slop that's overwhelming the people who normally check for this.
But remember, AUR is not some niche or abandoned project: there are hundreds of experts all around the world - from NATO governments to megacorporations to major #OpenSource leaders - actively trying to mitigate and solve this problem from every angle. It will be handled eventually, and we'll come out more resilient for it.
In the meantime, if you're on Arch... Just don't bulk-update your AUR packages. Run #Pacman and #Flatpak's System Update, and don't mess with AUR unless you need something from it, and look it over when you do, which should be standard behavior anyway.

„Spiel des Jahres“ 2025 – Eure Erfahrungen?
Inzwischen sind seit der Preisverleihung ein paar Monate ins Land gezogen und ich bin bemüht, die Nominierten nach und nach in der #Leipziger Ludothek zumindest einmal anzuspielen. Was hat euch überzeugt, was hat den Schrank vielleicht schon wieder verlassen?
Das als Spiel des Jahres ausgezeichnete #BombBusters hatte ich schon zuvor zumindest auf der Watchlist. Und während ich mich bei anderen Preisträgern und Nominierten (Just One, #Flip7) wiederholt daran störe, dass hier zugunsten der schnellen Spielbarkeit der Anspruch an Kreativität der Autorin/des Autors anscheinend völlig untergeht, bringt Bomb Busters für mich ein Spielerlebnis ohnegleichen auf den Tisch. Während ich bei anderen Spielen immer wieder damit zu kämpfen habe, vor lauter Vertiefung in den eigenen nächsten Zug die Schritte der anderen nicht aus den Augen zu verlieren, lässt Bomb Busters keine Gelegenheit zum Tagtraum – hier sind alle konzentriert darauf bedacht, dass niemand am Tisch das Überleben des Teams gefährdet. Dazu noch ein wenig Thriller-Filmmusik in den Hintergrund und am Nervenkitzel führt hier kaum ein Weg vorbei.
Das bereits angesprochene Flip 7 von der Nominierungsliste hat bei uns am Tisch schnell für gute Laune gesorgt – und dennoch war die Runde ziemlich sicher die erste und letzte Leihe des Spiels. Spiele ich zur Abwechslung mal Casino-Spiele, ist Black Jack aka 17+4 für mich erste Wahl, eben auch hier des Nervenkitzels wegen und da die Runden schnell gespielt sind. Und wer im Leben bereits mehr als 3 Runden #BlackJack gespielt hat, der spürt bei Flip 7 schnell, was es ist: Das Äquivalent dessen, was Uno zu Mau Mau ist. Einen Klassiker genommen, ein paar Aktionskarten dazu und eine moderne Illustration – fertig ist der Bestseller. Mal ehrlich – das fetzt, aber wer will das denn mal länger als 20 Minuten spielen? Will ich push your luck, will ich auch weiter lieber Can’t Stop spielen.
Meine erste Partie Cities (Nominierungsliste) ist schon wieder ein paar Monate her – und auch wenn ich es demnächst mal wieder auf den Tisch bringen möchte, muss ich hier gestehen, dass es mir schon wieder ein wenig in Vergessenheit geraten war. Es ist wahrscheinlich ein ziemlich ideales Spiel, wenn man Gelegenheitsspieler:innen Worker-Placement-Spiele nahebringen möchte, denn mit viel weniger Einstiegshürden kommt man kaum in dieses Genre rein. Das Getüftel am Stadtplan ließ mich kräftig grübeln und die Partie hätte wegen mir noch deutlich länger gehen können – in der Runde scheitert(e) Cities aber schlichtweg daran, dass im Regal zahlreiche Worker-Placement-Spiele mit höherem Komplexitätslevel stehen, die eine zu große Konkurrenz für das einstiegsfreundliche Spiel sind.
Mit Neuland verhielt es sich bei mir genau umgekehrt: Anlegespiele sind für mich neben Deckbuildern nahezu ein Garant für Ablehnung. Sich Erfolg dadurch zu erarbeiten, anderen das Leben schwer zu machen, ist für mich destruktiv und vergeudete Zeit. Bei #Neuland hingegen mag ich es, sich über längerfristige Konsequenzen eigener Spielentscheidungen und Ressourcenbeschaffung den Kopf zu zerbrechen. Für mich eine sehr positive Überraschung am Tisch.
Das Kennerspiel des Jahres #Endeavor – Die Tiefsee aus dem Hause @frostedgames welches bei @boardgamecircus das Licht der Welt erblickt hat, hat uns alle am Tisch abgeholt und war neben Bomb Busters das zweite Spiel, welches ich mir nach dem Anspielen gleich ins Regal gepackt habe. Hier trifft eine Vielfalt an strategischen Optionen auf eine kräftige Portion Unberechenbarkeit durch die Interaktion am variabel heranwachsenden gemeinsamen Spielfeld. Nach fast jeder Runde will ich aus meinen Fehlgriffen lernen und es bei einer weiteren Partie gleich noch einmal probieren und bin zuversichtlich, dass das noch einige Jahre regelmäßig auf den Tisch kommt. Es ist kein Spiel, welches mich durch neue Ansätze begeistert, aber Endeavor – Die Tiefsee wirkt auf mich einfach rund und kann trotz eines Settings, welches mich sonst eher abschreckt (Erkundung der Meere), begeistern.
Mit Faraway habe ich auch diesbezüglich einen Gegenpart gefunden. Als es auf den Tisch kam und ich mich mit der Spielbeschreibung auseinandersetzte, ging ich davon aus, dass ich das Spiel in 30 Minuten noch nicht verstehen werde, doch der Erklärbär der Runde behielt recht, dass das sehr durcheinander klingt, hinterher aber schnell läuft. Man ist schnell im Spiel drin, doch braucht so manche Runde, um mit dem Mechanismus zum Erfolg zu kommen. Nach 7-8 Partien bin ich aber doch recht zügig an den Punkt gekommen, an dem ich erst einmal genug davon habe. Es dauert stets eine Weile, bis in den Partien Spannung aufkommt – und genau das ist einfach ein wesentlicher Aspekt bei der Frage, was bei der nächsten Runde auf den Tisch kommt. Bringt noch einmal jemand #Faraway auf den Tisch, bin ich gerne dabei, doch bei mir selbst wird es sich im Spieleschrank wohl nicht mehr durchsetzen.
Kauri möchte ich auf jeden Fall noch ausprobieren. Von Wortspielen habe ich in Relation zu den selten gespielten Runden inzwischen genug, die mich abholen, als dass ich Perfect Words noch unbedingt kennenlernen müsste.
Und wer kleine Spieler:innen überzeugen möchte: #ToppDieTorte ist eine wirkliche schöne Taktiererei, die in der Weihnachtsrunde auch jene an den Tisch gefesselt hat, die sonst als erstes das Weite suchen. Als es auf den Tisch kam und ich mich mit der Spielbeschreibung auseinandersetzte, ging ich davon aus, dass ich das Spiel in 30 Minuten noch nicht verstehen werde, doch der Erklärbär der Runde behielt recht, dass das sehr durcheinander klingt, hinterher aber schnell läuft. Man ist schnell im Spiel drin, doch braucht so manche Runde, um mit dem Mechanismus zum Erfolg zu kommen. Nach 7-8 Partien bin ich aber doch recht zügig an den Punkt gekommen, an dem ich erst einmal genug davon habe. Es dauert stets eine Weile, bis in den Partien Spannung aufkommt – und genau das ist einfach ein wesentlicher Aspekt bei der Frage, was bei der nächsten Runde auf den Tisch kommt. Bringt noch einmal jemand #Faraway auf den Tisch, bin ich gerne dabei, doch bei mir selbst wird es sich im Spieleschrank wohl nicht mehr durchsetzen.
Kauri möchte ich auf jeden Fall noch ausprobieren. Von Wortspielen habe ich in Relation zu den selten gespielten Runden inzwischen genug, die mich abholen, als dass ich Perfect Words noch unbedingt kennenlernen müsste.
Und wer kleine Spieler:innen überzeugen möchte: #ToppDieTorte ist eine wirkliche schöne Taktiererei, die in der Weihnachtsrunde auch jene an den Tisch gefesselt hat, die sonst als erstes das Weite suchen. „Spiel des Jahres“ 2025 – Eure Erfahrungen?
Inzwischen sind seit der Preisverleihung ein paar Monate ins Land gezogen und ich bin bemüht, die Nominierten nach und nach in der #Leipziger Ludothek zumindest einmal anzuspielen. Was hat euch überzeugt, was hat den Schrank vielleicht schon wieder verlassen?
Das als Spiel des Jahres ausgezeichnete #BombBusters hatte ich schon zuvor zumindest auf der Watchlist. Und während ich mich bei anderen Preisträgern und Nominierten (Just One, #Flip7) wiederholt daran störe, dass hier zugunsten der schnellen Spielbarkeit der Anspruch an Kreativität der Autorin/des Autors anscheinend völlig untergeht, bringt Bomb Busters für mich ein Spielerlebnis ohnegleichen auf den Tisch. Während ich bei anderen Spielen immer wieder damit zu kämpfen habe, vor lauter Vertiefung in den eigenen nächsten Zug die Schritte der anderen nicht aus den Augen zu verlieren, lässt Bomb Busters keine Gelegenheit zum Tagtraum – hier sind alle konzentriert darauf bedacht, dass niemand am Tisch das Überleben des Teams gefährdet. Dazu noch ein wenig Thriller-Filmmusik in den Hintergrund und am Nervenkitzel führt hier kaum ein Weg vorbei.
Das bereits angesprochene Flip 7 von der Nominierungsliste hat bei uns am Tisch schnell für gute Laune gesorgt – und dennoch war die Runde ziemlich sicher die erste und letzte Leihe des Spiels. Spiele ich zur Abwechslung mal Casino-Spiele, ist Black Jack aka 17+4 für mich erste Wahl, eben auch hier des Nervenkitzels wegen und da die Runden schnell gespielt sind. Und wer im Leben bereits mehr als 3 Runden #BlackJack gespielt hat, der spürt bei Flip 7 schnell, was es ist: Das Äquivalent dessen, was Uno zu Mau Mau ist. Einen Klassiker genommen, ein paar Aktionskarten dazu und eine moderne Illustration – fertig ist der Bestseller. Mal ehrlich – das fetzt, aber wer will das denn mal länger als 20 Minuten spielen? Will ich push your luck, will ich auch weiter lieber Can’t Stop spielen.
Meine erste Partie Cities (Nominierungsliste) ist schon wieder ein paar Monate her – und auch wenn ich es demnächst mal wieder auf den Tisch bringen möchte, muss ich hier gestehen, dass es mir schon wieder ein wenig in Vergessenheit geraten war. Es ist wahrscheinlich ein ziemlich ideales Spiel, wenn man Gelegenheitsspieler:innen Worker-Placement-Spiele nahebringen möchte, denn mit viel weniger Einstiegshürden kommt man kaum in dieses Genre rein. Das Getüftel am Stadtplan ließ mich kräftig grübeln und die Partie hätte wegen mir noch deutlich länger gehen können – in der Runde scheitert(e) Cities aber schlichtweg daran, dass im Regal zahlreiche Worker-Placement-Spiele mit höherem Komplexitätslevel stehen, die eine zu große Konkurrenz für das einstiegsfreundliche Spiel sind.
Mit Neuland verhielt es sich bei mir genau umgekehrt: Anlegespiele sind für mich neben Deckbuildern nahezu ein Garant für Ablehnung. Sich Erfolg dadurch zu erarbeiten, anderen das Leben schwer zu machen, ist für mich destruktiv und vergeudete Zeit. Bei #Neuland hingegen mag ich es, sich über längerfristige Konsequenzen eigener Spielentscheidungen und Ressourcenbeschaffung den Kopf zu zerbrechen. Für mich eine sehr positive Überraschung am Tisch.
Das Kennerspiel des Jahres #Endeavor – Die Tiefsee aus dem Hause @frostedgames welches bei @boardgamecircus das Licht der Welt erblickt hat, hat uns alle am Tisch abgeholt und war neben Bomb Busters das zweite Spiel, welches ich mir nach dem Anspielen gleich ins Regal gepackt habe. Hier trifft eine Vielfalt an strategischen Optionen auf eine kräftige Portion Unberechenbarkeit durch die Interaktion am variabel heranwachsenden gemeinsamen Spielfeld. Nach fast jeder Runde will ich aus meinen Fehlgriffen lernen und es bei einer weiteren Partie gleich noch einmal probieren und bin zuversichtlich, dass das noch einige Jahre regelmäßig auf den Tisch kommt. Es ist kein Spiel, welches mich durch neue Ansätze begeistert, aber Endeavor – Die Tiefsee wirkt auf mich einfach rund und kann trotz eines Settings, welches mich sonst eher abschreckt (Erkundung der Meere), begeistern.
