The ground beneath us was mud, the winter air heavy, and the faces around us heavier still. We were talking about the formation of the #US-led “Board of Peace”, in a phase of the so-called ceasefire that is supposedly defined by stability and reconstruction.
At that exact moment, the sound of an explosion tore through the air. We stopped talking, and I found myself asking: how is this a ceasefire? How can peace be declared while explosions still echo above our heads?

10 December 2025The Palestinian Civil Defence and the Gaza Government Media Office have issued an urgent warning to Palestinians in the Strip, on 10 December. The polar storm “Byron” will hit within 72 hours. Gaza flooding is imminent.
More than 90 percent of Gaza’s residential buildings have been damaged or destroyed by the Israeli occupation. This storm threatens more than 1.5 million displaced #Palestinians, living in worn out tents across the Strip. Officials say that it is expected to bring flash flooding to Gaza — along with strong gusts of wind capable of uprooting tents, rising sea waves, and thunderstorms.

Nov 25, 2025DEIR AL-BALAH, GAZA STRIP—Ten-year-old Rateb Abu Qleiq sat in a rusted chair in front of his tent in Deir al-Balah. As he spoke, he unconsciously swung his right leg, which was amputated just below the knee, back and forth—the stub tracing a short arc in the air. On his lap he cradled a makeshift prosthetic, nothing more than a piece of plastic sewage pipe outfitted with an orange covering secured by a piece of string.
Rateb was severely wounded in an Israeli airstrike in Khan Younis earlier this year that killed his mother and brother. His right leg was crushed and had to be amputated. He has undergone five surgeries in his abdomen since the attack.
