As I go through the daily paces of #sewing all of the #ElfkinCouture things lately, I think back to the Fashioning Chinese Women exhibit at LACMA. The vast majority of the qipao were hand sewn and had the liveliness left by the seamstress’s hands and their perfect imperfections. The last room, though, held contemporary pieces made entirely on machine. Technically perfect and totally lifeless.

As ever, one is reminded that perfection is the enemy of #art.

Relâche provided me with the heirloom cotton print and purple leather skirt as source materials for the #SummerBrunchShirt and leather shorts that I’m making them. We’re now at the “but how will this really work?” stage with the muslins. (The pink chalk lines on the shorts show where I want to preserve the original side panels of the skirt.) #fashion #sewing #ElfkinCouture

Thus begins 30 linear yards (27.4 meters) of side hemming on the fabrics for Bernie's kaftans. #fashion #ElfkinCouture

But feelings change. So I’ve decided to move the pockets and switch up the closures with these fab vintage buttons so that I may have it to wear in Japan next week. #sewing #fashion #art #ElfkinCouture
