As we prepare to board the Shinkansen for Tokyo to catch our flight home, I cannot help but observe that Kanazawa and Dogo (our previous stop) are towns that have either had it with tourists (who could blame them?) or aren’t particularly friendly to the gays (which I can get enough of at home). I’m glad to have seen their beauty but am not eager to return to them for they weren’t particularly welcoming. #ElfkinInJP

Was the entire reason I wanted to visit the Shugakuin Imperial Villa outside of Kyoto that its name sounds roughly like "sugarqueen?" You betcha! The breakfast room at the hotel this morning was chockablock with an enormous group (30+) of American Chads and Karens, and my immediate impulse was to flee. Not so much because their atrocious manners stand out in Japan’s compulsively polite culture. More because, as I have to remind myself in such moments, *all* of the violence and trauma I’ve experienced in my queer life has started when large groups of Nice White People have decided I was the traitor in their midst. #ElfkinInJP

2. Workplace gripes.
3. Commentary on how crowded everything is (to them).
4. Where to buy luxury brands.
5. Buying/renovating homes.

The camellias are blooming with as much vigor as the cherry trees here in Japan right now. With the rains on Saturday, though, there were more on the ground than on the bushes.
