  1. A quotation from Horace

Whene’er you lecture, be concise: the soul
Takes in short maxims, and retains them whole:
But pour in water when the vessel’s filled,
It simply dribbles over and is spilled.

[Quidquid praecipies, esto brevis, ut cito dicta
    percipiant animi dociles teneantque fideles:
omne supervacuum pleno de pectore manat.]

Horace (65–8 BC) Roman poet, satirist, soldier, politician [Quintus Horatius Flaccus]
Epistles [Epistularum, Letters], Book 2, ep. 3 “Art of Poetry [Ars Poetica; To the Pisos],” l. 335ff (2.3.335-337) (19 BC) [tr. Conington (1874)]

  2. A quotation from Robert Ingersoll

The dogmas of the past no longer reach the level of the highest thought, nor satisfy the hunger of the heart. While dusty faiths, embalmed and sepulchered in ancient texts, remain the same, the sympathies of men enlarge; the brain no longer kills its young; the happy lips give liberty to honest thoughts; the mental firmament expands and lifts; the broken clouds drift by; the hideous dreams, the foul, misshapen children of the monstrous night, dissolve and fade.

Robert Green Ingersoll (1833-1899) American lawyer, freethinker, orator
Essay (1881-08) “The Christian Religion,” “Is All of the Bible Inspired?” ch. 3, North American Review, Vol. 133, No. 297

  4. @cenobyte

I thank you, Skye and your kind hooman assistants, for the attempted #edification.

I'll keep reading physics, but I don't think I'll make much progress on this sort of stuff. "I'm trying to think who the third person could be", indeed.

  5. How do we choose what Bible texts to post? Most of the time, it’s a semi-random process, using the NET Bible’s random Bible text. Sometimes we have to click several times to find an appropriate verse. After all, Nehemiah 10.15 may not be the most edifying text to post. At other times, in our readings a text may catch our eye and be used for posting. All Scripture is inspired by God, and our desire is for the Good News of Christ to be evidenced in every text. #Bible #edification
