NO, the fediverse / #mastodon is not any more complicated than signing up for any of the DTBOs. Choose a server/instance (YES, READ the "About" and "Rules" of the instance, imagine that!), select a username, password, use an email for confirmation, etc.
If you think 2minutes spent on looking at what you are getting into is too much work, then stay at xitter, and bow down to musk.
