although I'm less active here than on the bird site I will be respecting the #UCURising #digitalpicket line and NOT self promoting or talking about work on strike days. Like others I will lose thousands of pounds, hundreds of hours of research time and face the dis/stress of striking.
If we win, *everyone* in UK academia wins, whether they strike or not. So please respect the line & show solidarity. -

Thank you to friends and colleagues striking today. Fighting to make all our lives better, to allow us to see some future in academia. We aren't asking for much. Fair pay and better working conditions, particularly for ECR who suffer precarious contracts. There are so many dedicated staff, wanting to make a great student experience. Universities exploit this.

Today I will be joining the digital picket at University of Cambridge alongside my fellow UCU colleagues in UK higher education.
I adore my students, and I love teaching. We wish we weren't striking, but with pension and pay cuts, a surge in casual/temporary contracts (1/3rd of contracts), and precarity in a broken sector, it's clear there needs to be change.

I will just add that I am participating in the #digitalpicket so will not be posting anything related to my work on strike days. But I do look forward to chatting with you about more pleasant things and catching up on a bit of life maintenance, which in the general run of the kind of working weeks that the Musks of this world promote is quite difficult.
