My opinion for the day, inspired by #Mothers everywhere and the words of author Murrey Bookchin: We must decolonize language before we can have an ecological, democratic society. We live with our mother, and our Mother lives within us.

As Dorothy Lee observes in her superb discussion of the “primitive” mind, “equality exists in the very nature of things, as a byproduct of the democratic structure of the culture itself, not as a principle to be applied. A Wintu mother, for example, does not “take” her baby into the shade; she “goes” with it into the shade. A chief does not “rule” his people; he “stands” with them. In any case, he is never more than their advisor and lacks coercive power to enforce his views. The Wintu “never say, and in fact they cannot say, as we do, ‘I have a sister,’ or a ‘son,’ or husband Lee observes. “To live with is the usual way in which they express what we call possession, and they use this term for everything they respect, so that a man will be said to live with his bow and arrows.”"

I have #challenged my own family & friends on their #colonized brain behaviours. You're definitely NOT immune to my #critical #decolonization eyes .
White or #POC - we all need to actively #DecolonizeOurMinds & learn to #identify colonized #thinking when it starts to overpower our brain & understand why we have to deal with our own colonized #mindsets before we even start trying to #educate others about active decolonization.

I'm a #disabled #POC person who also didn't recognize my colonized, brainwashed mind had used lots of #ableist language in the past (and sometimes still fuck up on it). I'm trying to be more mindful about the #power of language/speech & how it's essential to #DecolonizeOurMinds . I want folks to realize that you can be in marginalized populations & still enable bigotry by verbage choices - if you're unaware.

Shine flashlights on your own unawareness areas. Then #ThinkDeeper & #DoBetter 🙌
