A bunch of people in tonight's march were chanting "Recall Bowser!" and I 100% sympathize, but citywide recalls in DC are nearly impossible. Plus if by a miracle it succeeded, it would cut only a few months off her time in office, and Mendelson would become acting mayor. Better to devote that time, energy, and money to something else—like a primary campaign against her, if someone steps up. #DCPolitics #DCElections

Councilmember Christina Henderson introduces a charter amendment that would prevent a member of the DC Council who is expelled by their colleagues from serving for the 5 years following expulsion. If the council passes it, it will then be voted on by the electorate. Of course it won't affect the current Ward 8 situation. #DCPolitics

I remember 8 years ago when less than half a million dollars was seen as ridiculously expensive for a parade viewing stand that would be used for 1 day (as it turned out the day was the Women's March, not the inauguration). This time the price has tripled. #DCPolitics

This morning an ad hoc committee of the DC Council voted unanimously to recommend expelling Councilmember Trayon White. The council is expected to vote on the expulsion at its Feb 4 meeting.
On Dec 3, 2019, a similar committee unanimously recommended expulsion for Jack Evans. On Jan 7, 2020, Evans announced his resignation, effective Jan 17, avoiding an expulsion vote expected on Jan 21. Incidentally, Trayon White was on that committee.
