This is a highly recommended weekly newsletter of useful/curious datasets; this includes spatial data, and indeed the newsletter this week mentioned that the USGS “has released a new map of landslide susceptibility, indicating the specific areas of the country (at 90-meter resolution) that are at greatest risk of slides.” (see my other post today.)

  6. I saw from #DataIsPlural that millions of historical legal texts are now downloadable via case.law/. The first ruling I look at (from NC in 1795) begins

"All writers agree, that the northern nations Of Europe, who spread themselves over the southern and western parts of it, were an illiterate people, who despised all arts but those of war."

It goes on to explain how written promises came to be legally binding (or something like that).

  11. This week's #DataIsPlural pointed to a collection of #TheOnion's American Voices content.

The occupation field is an interesting challenge to represent graphically: 13000 unique occupations over 23000 quotes, and two of them are extremely common (must be an in joke).
Here are two bar charts with roughly the same area scale for the top 2 and next 3000.

  16. I made a *thing* for exploring dialog in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, and other novels! I'm not sure what to call it, but you can see who talks with who, mentions and more.
Was suppose to be a static #dataviz image, but had too much fun with interactivity to stop there. Originally submitted it to #DVS #DataIsPlural challenge, which prompted people to create something using the "Project Dialogism" dataset. View online at leonora.app/a/dialogism , I gave up on making it mobile friendly tho...
