  3. This 2022 post relating #dataism and #universityrankings to the #mentalhealth of students and teaching staff is well worth a reread. openpresstiu.pubpub.org/pub/be. Need to explore the recent (empirical) research on the topic.

  5. @Eetschrijver Can you tell me what your opinion of it is? I'm kinda curious what people think who have actually read the book. What is the problem that #dataism will fix?

  6. @Eetschrijver Yeah, it is a bit like how that #Murphy's #Law goes:

“Whoever has the gold, makes the rules.”

Although you could say that gold has been replaced several times already by #oil and #data.
That reminds me of #dataism. Are you familiar with that?

  7. Looking forward to #ISA in Montreal next week. With @bhaggart we'll be presenting on #dataism, #smartcities & Google's failed smart city project in Toronto as a case of private infrastructure. The paper is based on our forthcoming book (open access!): The new knowledge: information, data & the remaking of global power (Rowman & Littlefield). Looking forward to seeing old friends and making new connections!

  9. everyone wants to protect their data as an asset from several threats, but only few people really know what data they have and its true value to use it properly.

The "Dataism" is imperative now as the greater good of all, but it shouldn't be the main goal of life.

  10. "Now, a fresh shift is taking place. Just as divine authority was legitimised by religious mythologies, and human authority was legitimised by humanist ideologies, so high-tech gurus and Silicon Valley prophets are creating a new universal narrative that legitimises the authority of algorithms and Big Data. This novel creed may be called “Dataism”.

  11. some people call this #capitalist replacement #dataism, others use neo #feudalism and #fascism.

personally, it seems that no worry is needed about the name atm - perhaps, the change is a unique opportunity to develop other, nameless, alternatives?
