"Burning seashells to make quicklime once was a great tradition in the #NorthAtlantic region. In Millstone Park, Hyllestad (W-Norway), we have built two #limekilns, reviving old lime burning traditions, involving #craftspeople, volunteers and the public. When I saw a gorgeous knife in the hands of a local chef, I had to ask about it.
Turns out it was a custom-forged knife made by Tom Stegner, a knifesmith here in Kitchener! Needless to say, you *know* I wanted to talk (and write) about him for my CBCKW Food column ☺️
And I got knife tips (😉) for the home cook, from Conestoga College's Sean Duffy :)

@nobyeni Thank you for the encouragement! It's been fun. I remember trying a project about 7 years ago (😨👴) but not sticking with it. I think the #knitting community here has been really helpful, and I enjoy learning about it. I have a long way to go, but resolving this directionality confusion with all the awesome #craftspeople here has been motivating. I cannot wait to tackle projects with more personality and elegance. It's a nice kind of screen free way to settle down for the night too (I often listen to stories on my phone, but mostly just watching the yarn work). 🙇
I think I will be using any spare yarn from my first project to just try out the different stitches and techniques.

Close up of the filigree #torc from the #BlairDrummond #hoard which was found in 2009.
This torc is likely about 2300 years old and is very distinctive, unusually showing a very #European (probably #Greek or #Etruscan) style of #making . However, there's no reason to suggest it has to have come from continental Europe, as #craftspeople and #ideas were travelling all over at this time.
