  4. workshop: how to counter-map autonomy and self-organization

    16th November, 12-17.00, Roodkapje Rotterdam

A counter-mapping workshop, under the guidance of the Argentinian researcher/designer/activist duo, Iconoclasistas.

Using an older mapping of artist-run spaces in Rotterdam as our starting point, we will be guided by Iconoclasistas to relearn and rethink how to make mappings – and specifically, how to map communities in ways that serve these communities and rethink more broadly what mapping is. What are the maps we miss? What are counter-hegemonic ways of mapping?

If you’re interested in these questions, you’re welcome to join us. Participation is free.

Iconoclasistas is a duo formed by Julia Risler (PhD in Social Sciences) and Pablo Ares (self-taught graphic artist) in May 2006. Based in Argentinia, Iconoclasistas began as a social communication laboratory, where the pair produce graphics (posters, publications, cartographies, etc.) and urban interventions. They are participating via teleconferencing.

  5. Hey #mapping, #digitalHumanities, #digitalScholarship, #counterMapping, #gis folks, what are you using for collaborative mapping? Anything that can allow user-generated points and also the ability for the vetting of said user-generated content (because people 🫠) ?

  6. In #ethnobiology we use walking together with experts as a hybrid interview/mapping #researchMethod --- this is a lovely example of a similar embodied collaboration being used as environmental #countermapping in an urban area in Switzerland.

  7. I just moved to tldr.nettime, so it’s time for an #introduction. I am a social and cultural #geographer working and teaching at #HalleUniversity (Germany). I am interested in the geographies of technology and currently doing research on #OpenStreetMap, political and historical geographies of infrastructure, #countermapping and platform urbanism. Also, I am part of the open-access journal @sub_urban .
