  1. Correct me if I'm wrong but from years of watching 'This Old House', I understand that American houses are held together by common nails. Up here, we use spirl 'Ardox' nails. You can pull wood held with common nails apart with your hands. For Ardox you'd need a jimmy or sometimes, dynamite. Is this still correct?

  2. It was only 5 years ago when no-calibration (GNSS+IMU) tilt compensation for surveying and constuction rovers first hit the market. And now, it is an almost universal feature for new rovers. I spent some time looking at the adoption and impact of this technology; when users recommend to use it, and when not to.

Oh, and that 'click-baitey' title on the magazine cover was not my idea 🙄

  3. Constuction automation: ustoppable, but more about many minor triumphs than major leaps. It's not just about autonomy... That will be great when it happens, but there is much being gained in the incremental steps of automation.

  4. What’s happening in lidar tech for #surveying, #geomatics, #enginnering and #constuction? Steady improvements across the board of course, but the integration of what would otherwise be considered consumer tech is having a bigger impact than many imagined. bit.ly/3DtoRpB

  5. There are many options for GNSS corrections services, suitable for different applications. So many that it seems like Gold Rush days. More choice is a good thing. A look at some of the different types. Plus (on the preceding page in the link) a look at how tiered corrections services are serving precision agriculture.

  6. In Singapore, incinerate waste (ash) is being tested as construction material for roads.

"One part of the study is to ensure that using NEWSand [name for the incinerated ash] in road construction does not affect the quality of our water sources, as most of the land area of Singapore is used for the catchment of water."
