a California-based think tank with close ties to the Trump movement,
and the contemporary writings of the legal scholar #Adrian #Vermeule.Many on the right have bristled at presidential power’s being constrained over the past century by two waves of administrative reform.
The first dates back to the early 20th century and the rise of the bureaucratic-regulatory state during the Progressive and New Deal eras.
The second wave emerged in the 1970s, as Congress responded to the abuses of power by Richard Nixon.
The presidency has evolved to become an office exercising general (and often passive) oversight of vast departments and agencies,
which are staffed by career civil servants who stay on across administrations.Presidents are constrained by layers of lawyers and others determining what is allowable based on law and precedent.
This evolution came about in part because the presidency can be the office most susceptible to despotic or tyrannical rule.
That’s where the more radical critique emanating from the hard right focuses its attention.
Schmitt (who died in 1985) developed his most influential ideas during the turbulence and ineffectual governance of Germany’s Weimar Republic.
In his view, liberalism has a fatal weakness.

whereas Caesarism implements “authoritarian one-man rule partially legitimized by necessity”– that is,
“the breakdown of republican, constitutional rule”,

“a nation no longer capable of ruling itself must yet be ruled”.He writes that a

“the reds” in the Republican coalition,

"Streams of protesters from different campuses convened at the intersection of 6th Street and N. College Ave., forming a group of several hundred.
"Students then marched south to Carnegie Hall, flooding in through the front entrance. Two administrators briefly attempted to block the doors and ID scanner, but were overwhelmed by the mass of protesters.
"Inside, students chanted while organizers handed out pamphlets. Lead organizers commandeered multiple classrooms to lead 'teach-in' sessions for participants.
"Photos from inside the building show graffiti reading 'INTIFADA,' the Arabic word for 'uprising' or 'rebellion,' spray painted on walls, inside the elevators, and over the carpeting. Protesters also cut electrical cords inside classrooms, sliced a projector screen, and spray-painted over a bust of William Johnson, a former Pomona trustee."

This semester, the progressive, student-run Motley Coffeehouse at Scripps College in Claremont, CA, hung a Palestinian flag in the space. The administration ordered it removed, saying it made the cafe unwelcoming for some. The coffeehouse refused.
This morning, as the cafe was preparing to host a "Market for Mutual Aid" to raise funds for folks in the Congo, Palestine, and Sudan, Scripps shut down the coffeehouse, and in the twisted logic of power, deployed feminist language in doing so, claiming closing the space will preserve "the feminist and intersectional ethos that has shaped the Motley’s culture." As much as Scripps wishes it to be the case, this is certainly not the end of the story.

“I do think it’s permissible, in principle, for a state to suppress theological heresy,
but that doesn’t mean that it’s prudent or proper,
suitable in every circumstance or every tradition or way of life.”The Founding Fathers, he added, had encouraged religious liberty,

Pro-Trump professionals aren’t just talking about remaking Western civilization. Some are uprooting their lives to show that they mean it.
The #Claremont #Institute has been located in Southern California since its founding in the late 1970s.
From its perch in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains, it has become a leading intellectual center of the pro-Trump right.
Without fanfare, however, some of Claremont’s key figures have been leaving California to find ideologically friendlier climes.
Ryan P. #Williams, the think tank’s president, moved to a suburb in the Dallas-Fort Worth area in early April.
His friend and Claremont colleague Michael #Anton
— a California native who played a major role in 2016 to convince conservative intellectuals to vote for Mr. Trump
— moved to the Dallas area two years ago.The institute’s vice president for operations and administration has moved there, too.
Others are following. Mr. Williams opened a small office in another Dallas-Fort Worth suburb in May,
and said he expects to shrink Claremont’s California headquarters.“A lot of us share a sense that Christendom is unraveling,” said Skyler #Kressin, 38, who is friendly with the Claremont leaders and shares many of their concerns.
He left Southern California to move to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, in 2020. “We need to be engaged, we need to be building.”

What's surprising is not that it is dishonest, manipulative, fatuous, racist, Zionist, or manages to avoid mention of seven months of genocide. Claremont FJP Statement on Student Encampment at Pomona
As the Israeli military invades Rafah and continues its genocide of Palestinians in Gaza, Claremont students have set up an encampment on Pomona’s Marston Quad and are demanding that Pomona College cease its support of that genocide. Pomona College’s faculty and students have each voted overwhelmingly for divestment – the Pomona College board and President Gabi Starr must now commit to following through on the ethical, anti-genocide actions the Pomona community has called for. The students' principled protests are a response to the Pomona administration's failure to honor these student and faculty calls for disclosure and for a commitment to and process of divestment. Any disruption to campus activity is a result of the Pomona administration’s refusal to heed these calls from students and faculty.
The Claremont Faculty for Justice in Palestine reiterates our stance in support of both student activism and Palestinian liberation.
We reiterate our support for students’ actions of civil disobedience in protest of genocide and apartheid, including encampments, across the globe and especially in Claremont.
We reiterate our demand that campus administrations honor their commitments to freedom of political expression and keep their students, faculty, and staff safe from arrest and assault by militarized police.
We condemn any campus administration that chooses to bring in law enforcement rather than heed the campus community’s call to refuse complicity in genocide.
We reiterate our call for divestment, a call applicable to every one of the Claremont Colleges, but one that begins with Pomona because it holds the largest endowment among the Claremont Colleges.
