Here's a little bit of a few tips on how to find people or posts in the Fediverse (Mastodon, Misskey, Firefish/Calckey, Pleroma, Akkoma, etc.) - this could mean artists, cool people, or whatever else!
0. There's no algorithm, and - in many cases, no full-text search (the merits or downsides I'm not getting into here). So you'll have to do a little bit of work when it comes to curating your own feed. It does make it a little bit harder, but it's worth it in the end! There's a few things you could do too (consider these the bonus tips of using blocks and filters) to not have stuff you don't want on your timeline, but this is mostly about finding people instead of removing bad actors out of your timeline.
1. Use hashtags. Unlike on X (but like Tumblr), you can follow hashtags. Plus, try casting a wide net - i.e. if you're into coffee, try following "coffee", "V60", "Aeropress", "Espresso", etc; for anime, follow hashtags using names in English, Japanese, and romanji. Plus, it doesn't hurt checking the hashtags when looking through other servers, as there often may be people whose posts may not have been loaded into your home instance - using an extension like FediAct, searching the person's account, or searching the URL of the person/post on your home instance will then let you interact with that post to reply/boost/renote/favourite/like/react/etc.
2. Use resources like Fedifinder! It skims through the profiles of people on X. In the case o Fedifinder, if the person's Fediverse account is in the description, location, listed as their URL, or as a part of a pinned Tweet; that person's corresponding Fediverse account will appear. After that, the resource will likely provide you with a .csv file with everyone that it has found, and you'll be able to import that list through the settings.
3. Lurk through your home feed and all timelines/live feeds. This has worked wonders for me. I'd figure home feed would work better for those who already have a decently active home feed going than for those just starting out, but it doesn't hurt to check! Plus, this is where the bonus tips of blocking and filtering come into play - especially when it comes to discovering keywords that you might've missed!
4. Lurk through the feeds of people that you already follow. This is honestly something that works REALLY well for me, and has helped me find a lot of new artists in my case. You will likely have to look through the person's feed on their home instance, through clicking "View full profile" or "View on remote instance"; although sometimes I didn't need to go that far to find someone I wasn't following before.
...and that's it! I've garnered a decent-sized list of people that I follow because of a few of these tips. If there's any more tips that you'd like to share, please feel free to do so!

#calckeytips The boost button changes color when you've already boosted a post. For me, picking a theme that maximizes the boosted/unboosted color contrast made things better for me. The default theme had too little contrast in the colors it used for this, and I wound up hovering over the button and looking for my handle in the list that popped up, rather than just looking at the UI element and seeing that I'd boosted it.
Now, my ADA compliance brain reminds me that using color as the only indicator of state isn't compliant because colorblind people would have to take extra steps, like I was, to see the state that folks with color vision can see with just a glance.
*Sigh,* Which probably means I should volunteer to help fix it. -

I have another #calckey question. When I try to boost a post on Kalckey.com, I see the following options:
* Boost
* Boost (Unlisted)
* Boost (Followers)
* Boost (Local)
This looks a lot like the post levels in Mastodon:
* Public
* Unlisted
* Followers-only
* Direct
Are these pretty much the same? And is "Local" boosting make my boost only visible on my server?
Finally, occasionally, I only see the last three boost options (unlisted, followers, local) on a post. I'm guessing this means that the original post was published unlisted, so I can't effectively un-unlist it by boosting it publicly.
Mostly I think I have it figured out, but I needed to both write it out so I understood it and do so publicly so someone who knows more than I do could pipe up with "Ah, but here's what you're missing..."

#TIL you can save your Calckey website preferences by visiting Settings > Preference backups.
This backup includes not only your configured preferences, but also your plugins, widgets, custom css, and themes you've installed.
You can save more than one configuration ("Mobile Mode", "Minimal Mode", "Halloween Theme", "Serious Mode") and load them as desired. Nice!

Another tip, if your #Calckey Deck UI setup requires horizontal scrolling, you can also do this:
1. Hover over a column header
2. Use the regular mouse scroll
Calckey will horizontally scroll the Deck UI.

A brief summary of the five main timelines on #Calckey
You can also make custom timelines with lists and antennas
#Fediverse #JoinCalckey #FindAServer #CalckeyTips #CalckeyTutorial #SpreadCalckey #MastodonAlternative -
If you're acquainted with #akkoma, you'll find the #calckey Recommended Timeline basically the same as the bubble timeline there. Your admin has chosen a small subset of your federated/global timeline - usually instances that your instance is in close relationship with, much like like the community of communities idea behind the bubble concept. #Fediverse #calckeytips
-
Today I ALSO learned that you can add hashtags in a separate section from your post content on Calckey - something that has been debated and discussed in depth for Mastodon, and here it is, already implemented in Calckey. :calc_laugh: #CalckeyTips #TIL #Hashtags #Calckey #CalckeyTips #TIL #Hashtags #Calckey
-
#TIL that when you add custom css to your #Calckey account, the results are saved to local storage and never back to the server itself. Makes perfect sense - just note that if you switch to a different browser or device, those custom css bits aren't going to follow you automatically.
#CalckeyTips #CssFunStuff #TIL -
Βλ. screenshot!
Παραδείγματα:

Re: #notifications setting in calckey.social.
Just in case clicking the “Enable” button is not working, check that the notification isn't blocked in the browser.
If it is blocked/not allowed/disabled, change it to ask or allow, refresh the site, then go back to your Calckey settings. The button to enable notifications should work fine then.

Yes (+1000) because I'm seeing an pretty inspiring mix of #Calckey early adopters and 'dog-fooders' like myself trying it out, maybe thinking about to move a main #Fediverse account over
The overall #CalcKey hashtag is just buzzing, plus a lot of in-server stuff on calckey.social. The quick responses from Calckey devs and admins and people close to this is just fantastic, as we learn and share so thank you all 💜
Got good hints and tip and things to share? Maybe we can also use a #Calckeytips hashtag - big nod to @youronlyone who is doing SUCH a great job simply to even stay on top of the chatter out there!!
Keep it coming ✨
As 'Quote-Post' here doesn't do this as standard (maybe it could in future as a courtesy, hint-hint ... ?), I'll tag you in manually @admin 👍
