  1. It may be a bias in my search terms, but I'm not seeing the pushback from Canadians that I expected? Or is it that the MPs are listening only to party leadership?

  2. The Angela Collective is hosting an event to discuss the disastrous ramifications of Bill C-22 in so called Canada which is slated to pass sometime later this year 😬

This bill may see the end of @signalapp availability in Canada and the death of any centralized service offering even a veil of privacy

Join us in discussing plans and alternatives to pre-existing standards in the leftist community and how we can pivot our use of technology to benefit us rather then our corporate and governmental overlords who seek to make 1984 look like a privacy utopia.

Technology by and for the people in a better world 🏴 :anarchism:

  3. "La sécurité numérique est un enjeu réel, et je ne plaide certainement pas pour l’inaction. Je plaide pour des solutions fondées sur la minimisation des données, le chiffrement fort, l’éducation numérique, la protection de la vie privée et, surtout, l’obligation de démontrer l’efficacité réelle des mesures avant leur adoption. Avant d’exiger plus de données, l’État devrait démontrer pourquoi moins de données ne suffisent pas"

  4. Fight all attempts to implement online ID checks, they do not protect children. The government lies to advance fascism.

If the government proceeds anyway, refuse to participate, then depose that government.

  5. "Mark Carney is building a surveillance state online. What else can you call a government that’s working to outlaw online anonymity? That plans to ID internet users as if going online is the same as entering a bar? That plans to create the equivalent of a human rights tribunal for offensive speech online?"

  6. Liberals water down lawful access bill during overnight vote blitz

There are some details about the amendments in the article.

It's shameful that the Liberals decided to use time allocation to force bill #c22 through the House of Commons; it deserves discussion and study. I hope the Senate will look at it more closely.

  7. #Canada Is Forging Ahead with Its Dangerous #Surveillance Bill

With no serious debate, including on proposed amendments, Canada is blazing full speed ahead with Bill C-22, which would threaten #encryption and increase surveillance. Also known as the Lawful Access Bill, Bill C-22 is currently moving forward quickly to a vote despite the many, many criticisms civil liberty groups and the tech industry have hurled at it.

  9. Hoping messages to my MP complaining about the pending bill C22 legislation will have some effect. Governments everywhere seem to be trying to put privacy-destroying legislation in place under the guise of 'protecting the children.'

In reality they're enabling backdoors and enabling warrantless access, and the monitoring of everyone's activities and metadata on whatever whim the gov of the day wishes to act upon.

  12. Bill C-22: NDP MP Jenny Kwan slams Lawful Access Act as 'most invasive piece of legislation'

Critics warn the controversial bill would give sweeping powers to Canadian security intelligence and law enforcement, jeopardizing the privacy and civil liberties of citizens.
