At the discussion round with Michael Kretschmer, Minister-President of Saxony, researchers from different European countries, including Attila Cangi from the Center for Advanced Systems Understanding (CASUS), had the opportunity to share their thoughts on how politics can support science more effectively. #BuildingBridges

"Thank you all for coming and keep building bridges!" With these words from HZDR Scientific Director Sebastian M. Schmidt, our international science conference #BuildingBridges comes to an end. We wish all participants a safe journey home. See you at the next gathering!

In the final lecture of #BuildingBridges, Stefanie Speidel spoke about challenges and opportunities of #AI methods such as augmented reality for #medicine. The computer scientist from NCT Dresden is certain: At some point, it will be possible for doctors to perform surgeries partially from anywhere in the world.

At #BuildingBridges today, experts delved into diverse aspects of #transfer to society. For example, the workshop on public engagement showed that it can be worthwhile to explore innovative formats like science slams and even music dedicated to scientific topics.

Let's continue with day 2 of #BuildingBridges! We start with the presentation of two research centers that are currently in the planning stage: The German Center for Astrophysics and the Center for the Transformation of Chemistry aim to promote structural change in Lusatia and the Central German mining region.

As the evening unfolds, scientists and politicians network and chat while enjoying a wonderful view over the Elbe River and #Dresden. A robot dog is among the highlights of the get-together. Thanks to all who joined us for a great Day 1 at #BuildingBridges!

Day 1 of #BuildingBridges wraps up with a key issue: How can our policymakers refine conditions for scientific progress? Saxony's Minister President Michael Kretschmer, Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala and Polish State Secretary Wojciech Murdzek join scientists to debate this topic.

Continuing with the Lightning Talks at #BuildingBridges, where scientists from 🇪🇺 🇵🇱 🇨🇿 & 🇩🇪 present research in key areas. For #Energy & #ClimateChange, Minshen Zhu from TU Chemnitz shares what progress has been made in the development of batteries for electronically smart microdevices.
