Good:
-check in/security was quick & easy
-pretty smooth ride
-segments hit 125 mph speed
-decent legroom
-many usb ports
Bad:
-seats were uncomfortable
-windows were wrapped like a microwave, couldn’t enjoy scenery (I like to stare out the window when riding a train)

FINALLY! High-speed rail from (almost) LA to Las Vegas is actually happening!
Brightline West is ready to start breaking ground this week, according to The Washington Post. The southwest endpoint will be in Rancho Cucamonga, where it will connect to Metrolink. (Which is definitely better than Victorville, which had been suggested a few years ago.) Connecting to the existing lines here will make it simpler to build than trying to connect all the way to Los Angeles proper. (gift link)
Travelers have a lot to look forward to. Electric trains will depart every 45 minutes from a Las Vegas station south of the city’s storied Strip and a Southern California station in Rancho Cucamonga, a Los Angeles suburb about 40 miles east of downtown.
Traveling at up to 186 mph — faster than any other train in the United States — Brightline West trains will make the 218-mile trip in about 2 hours and 10 minutes.

Two fatal crossing crashes on the #Brightline in the last week. As we finally start building out passenger #rail in the U.S., we are going to have to educate car drivers not to cross when the gates are down. Simple impatience, and a certain "I go where I want" entitlement by drivers. Plus, our rail shouldn't be crossing any roadways anyway, but doing that is more expensive, and we don't seem to want to build it right.

Last Sunday, I took Brightline from Fort Lauderdale to Orlando, and that was fun! The train was packed per the occupied luggage shelves. The train traveled at ~80 mph most of the time and made several technical stops. It picked up pace (110+ mph) in the last 45 minutes of the ride. The fastest section at 125 mph was along the freeway when the train starts whistling and passes cars. Staff on board was very friendly, selling snacks.
