  1. I enjoyed this morning's read by @Daojoan joanwestenberg.com/p/letters-t

it reminds me of one of the cards in the #bigtalk card game. I couldn't really give my old self advice because I was too stubborn and convinced that I was right. I wasn't ready. I had to learn the hard way and there was no way around it.

  4. A quotation from Addison, Joseph:

    «
An Army of Trumpeters would give as great a Strength to a Cause, as this Confederacy of Tongue-Warriours; who like those military Musicians, content themselves with animating their Friends to Battel, and run out of the Engagement upon the first Onset.

  7. I'm trying to adjust my Mastodon experience by finding more folks to follow.

Of the folks I follow now, a group of them engage each other a lot, one guy I follow who doesn't follow me back, and me very little unless I initiate it. That interaction is very much an ongoing, everyday conversation amongst friends. It's weirdly similar to how I started on that other site decades ago.

    I don't love it.

I don't want small talk. I want engagement over shared interests. I want generative conversation. I did have an awesome zoom chat with someone I found here. I'm trying to organize a trip to an art org about 90 minutes away to meet another guy and see his work. I want more of this!

When I click on my introduction hashtags, I get quickly to my own post with those hashtags. I'm a bit stymied, and thinking I may just not find what I want on mastodon. Advice is welcome!

Addendum 4/29/2023: I wish I hadn't put the sentence abt small talk. Feel free to ignore it.
