Got into a friendly argument with a coworker this morning over the phrase: "Our team of professionals is ready to help you today."

They keep wanting to use "are". Nope, it's "is". Team is singular in US English. "of professionals" is a descriptor of team not the subject.

Oh, the silly things we argue about in the morning before coffee. 😁
