I believe @openrisk has it backwards when they say "The decades long stagnation created a huge surplus, a passive online information trove. The #techbros, always on the lookout, found an algorithmic way to plunder it."
The stagnation followed widespread poaching and plunder by #techbros.
Things were moving at a pretty impressive clip before then. Now both #SemanticWeb and #BasicFormalOntology or #BFO have stalled.

Each is a #Continuant under #BasicFormalOntology #BFO — living, breathing, 3-dimensional entity in flesh & blood that "continues to exist through time," but bereft of life & hope.
Each is an #IndependentContinuant — a #MaterialEntity to be more specific — completely disjoint from any shelter of the #ImmaterialEntity kind (a #Site, such as a cave to hide in)
